Thanksgiving 2018

Well I am just so grateful. I tell you what, I have quite a list!

I talked to my mommy on Sunday for two-and-a-half hours. I love my mommy. I miss her so much. Stupid Florida.

The boy one is home. He’s such a good kid. I love him, too.

Course, I love the people who are here all the time, too. Love my girls. Love them to bits. Smart-assed and foul-mouthed, we dunno where they get it, oh but how wonderful they are.

The Mister may have gotten frisky with me multiple times this morning when I was NOT ready to be awake OR frisky, but he did many kindnesses today. He peeled potatoes, drained potatoes, basted the bird, and did all the dishes. I should probably thrust myself upon him later. Ain’t nothin boring about 20 years of monogamy, I’m just sayin.

We spent the day in our pajamas.  I am legit wearing pajamas and a cardigan. It’s a look. I have a clip in my hair. Like from the 90s. When you’re heavy into gravy AND I AM you hafta clear the path.

I am not wearing socks as the hot box is set on 76. Diva Furnace has given us some worry again, and what we do is not touch the thermostat. No touchy. No touchy, no worry.

I day drank. I night drink, too. Bubba got some plum brandy, which I am having the darndest time remembering the name of. Lemme ask him again. Slivovitz. If offered, you must try it.

I am typing this on my new keyboard. When my keyboard isn’t working, I can just plug this one in and type so nice. Since this keyboard fixes the problem, I will order a replacement keyboard for my lappy.

I do not go to work tomorrow. This flipped my happy switch like you would not believe. First, they said go home early on Wednesday and I said “OKAY!” Then they left and as we locked up, we realized we did not know when to return. I text to ask. I also text to ask about Columbus Day when no one else wanted to. I tell you what, the next “Do we have X off?” is on someone else. I don’t wanna be that girl. Also, maybe someone should calendar that stuff.

I didn’t think I cared if I worked tomorrow. Meh. The Mister works tomorrow, cause as he says, “Greed never takes a four-day.”

Sassy has swimming.

IMG_7099

guess who was in lane 4?

As it happens, I really did care about not working tomorrow. I’m giddy as can be!

I think it was the four-day thing. FOUR.DAYS. Last time I had four days off, I spent them looking for a job.
Gawd, I love my job.

Also, we had an ENORMOUS sheet cake — well, a whole sheet cake — in the office this week, and they were all, “Take the rest of the cake home,” and I was all, “OKAY!”

Cake is so happy. Ask yourself, when is the last time you saw your name in icing? Cause I mean to tell you, I could not recall. Let’s have more of that. Cake and our names in icing. I tell ya, next time I have a sad, Imma go to the bakery, pick a cake and tell the lady, “MY NAME IN ICING!”

IMG_7098 (1)

i don’t eat icing. this is irrelevant.

Fucking happy.

I think I’ll finish my plum brandy and go lounge in the tub like I have all the time in the world.

It sounds like you had a wonderful day! Mine was good, too, but not that good. That’s some epic turkey day stuff there. I trust dinner was great with the family.

Sounds like you had a perfectly lovely day. With gluten a-plenty, I bet. 😉

Yes, I did. But I want you to know it was Sassy who ate countless rolls yesterday. Every time someone left the table she’d ask them to bring in more rolls.
Did you work out some good gluten-free stuffing or cookies?

That cheered me up and wasn’t even in need of cheering up. Thanks, Joey.

You are a swim parent? (I’ve been meaning to comment on that). Oh, Lawdy! We did that for soooooo long (3, 3.5-years apart). I would ask how you do it all, but we did too and I have no idea how we managed. Just went through a bit of a discussion with #3, cuz she accused me of throwing her coach in the pool. I did not, but she insists that she saw me. I did want to. But I never did. LOL

I am! You knew this, but you’ve forgotten, prolly cause swim season really did end last year, even though we think it never will. We’ve no desire to throw any coaches into the pool, so that’s nice.
Just the one swimmer. Moo thought she might, but then she didn’t. She’s a runner. They both do performing arts, which is much more demanding on parents and if I was ever gonna throw anyone in a pool…. well, lemme stop there.

And I was all set to say “I hope you enjoyed the holiday.” 😀

I hope days 2-4 are every bit as good as the first. It’s hard to top you name in icing but with enough brandy…

Are there any more beautiful words in the English language than “Take the rest of the cake home”? I’m hard pressed to think of any at the moment…

  8. Sounds like a wonderful weekend for you. I learned about the plum brandy by watching the winter olympics from Czechoslovakia. (Try spelling that at 6:00.) It was a long time ago, back when it was still a country. I’ve never had it, but would do so on your recommendation.

According to the boy it originates in that region and has a few different pronunciations, depending. This is the same kid (fellow introvert) who as I read aloud the funny parts of your post yesterday, after I said you’d had a coupla beers and it was getting better ASKED ME WHAT KIND OF BEER. Haha! I was so glad you’d shared that part, for fear he’d make me ask you!
The brandy is the darndest thing. Smells like moonshine, burns lips and tongue yet hits the throat smooth. 🙂

  9. That sounds like a damned near perfect day. Husband doing kitchen chores, gravy and pajamas. I’m in.

  10. Wondeful post to read a day after Thanksgiving. Despite many big things that don’t always go well, remaining grateful for the small daily ones is freakin’ important. Happy long weekend to you and your family!

  11. Bahhaha, happy slivovka day to you, which is how Slovenians call it. The whole of the Balkans is full of plums, just saying. Makes you sign your name across the snow, if you have some. We don’t anymore here in Slovenia, it was just a one day stand. And tomorrow we’re off again to the land of SUN, which I MISSSSSS so so much. Enjoy your four days and beyond!

Sounds like you had a great Thanksgiving. We had a simple one with just the five of us plus my 95 year-old-mom who stayed up and went with us to the 10:30 PM showing of Bohemian Rhapsody. It has been quite a while since our family went to a movie together. I liked it a lot. The earlier part of the day was spent cooking, eating and playing a game of Monopoly (another thing we have not done as a family in forever) during which there were the usual family squabbles as can happen with games like that. Now there is the house to get back to normal and prep for a Holiday Boutique tomorrow at which I hopefully sell a lot of my crafty things. Wish me luck.

Haha! You work as much as I do, I’d bet. And if you asked, “Joey, would you rather spend your weekends in hotels doing book promos and peopling, or work 40-45 hours a week in an office…” well… You can guess, lol!

I’m glad you’re happy! I’m happy, too! Too much good food and drink. And I forgot to shower today and am still in old nitie. Not sure how to spell that word. Nightie?

    • joey says:

Nightie. I just want you to know, I imagine you in a salmon peignoir, roaming tile floors shining with tons of hot desert light.
      Is that how it was?

      • Luanne says:

Sure. If that’s how you want to imagine it, sure. Actually, there is a little chill in the air in the house now, and I have to wear my old robe. And under that is my nightie (so glad i can spell it now!) which is always the same style that I have been wearing for a long time. It’s what I think of as an ingenuey yoked nightie, something the girls in Little Women might have worn if they could wear sleeveless nighties. I won’t wear anything else! Preferably white. Or else sometimes sprigged. Emily Dickinson-ish mebbe. Dark wood floor.

I have a similar gown, always have 🙂 I wish I could find one with sleeves, too, because I haven’t had one of those in ages.
Sorry it’s drafty, but glad you’re cozy 🙂

I’ve found that the Eileen West ones are worth the price because they hold up for years of washings. They have long-sleeved. They are having a black Friday sale, but it looks like that is all sleeveless (of course).

            • joey says:

Right? Mine is sleeveless and thus requires a robe more than half the year. I’ll keep an eye out for Eileen West. My most beloved was a Target find. I wore her, sleeves and all, threadbare!

I’m glad your Thanksgiving was great! I did wear jeans to my mother-in-law’s, but I changed into sweatpants when I got home and had another round of pie and some wine as well. I haven’t tried plum brandy. It sounds interesting. Everyone was home today. The hubby and I thought it felt like a strange Friday since it isn’t the norm. We had a very lazy day…and that was superb. Mmmm…cake with your name. Awesome and tasty! 🙂

It sounds like you have this whole Thanksgiving thing down to a fine art – 4-day weekend, day drinking, pjs. Can I sign up to be American once a year for Thanksgiving? 😉

I’m trying to think if I EVER had my name on a cake. It sounds like an omission that needs correcting.

It appears you were stylin’ and having an awesome Thanksgiving. I hope the rest of your weekend has been awesome as well, complete with leftover turkey, more pajama time, and doing fun stuff with the family…including frisky Mister.
I’ve also been off for four days, but now it seems like it went by way too fast. I’d like to go back to Thanksgiving day and start all over again. Oh well…guess it’s back to work until the next time I take vacation and you decide to text your boss, “Ummm…do we have to work Christmas Day?” 😉 😀

When I asked about Columbus Day, one of my bosses said she thinks we’ll have a four-day at Xmas because Eve is a Monday. I looked, she’s right and ooooh, won’t that be nice? Then I don’t care until spring, when I hope I can take some time with the fam 🙂
I felt like it was a vacation, the four-day. I couldn’t believe how much time I had! I hope you get a nice restful weekend that goes slow so you can savor it.
