New Lappy is Not Lappy

As they do, retailers have all kinds of cheap gadgets online, check availability at local store, choose three to look at, arrive there only to be told the most expensive one is the only one available at brick n’ mortar despite online claim. Pfft. We’re on to your tricks, retailers.

I will not be swindled, fuckface retailer.

I was delighted to have a girl salesperson. I suppose she may be a woman, but looked like girl, so…

Bought Chromebook. Is tiny. I have tiny fingers on the ends of my tiny hands on the ends of my tiny T-Rex arms, but it’s tiny.

Is also light. I likey that.

My girls have two Chromebooks each — one for school and one for home. Whenever I use them, I giggle, “Hehe is like toy puter!” and now I have one.

I’m breaking it in with pecan pie crumbs.

Clearly I live well.

Am sad about tiny keyboard, not adjusted to it. Could plug my other one in, but best to work it out, hm?

Am absolutely mortified by photo options. May die of emailing myself photos or whatnot. Dunno yet.

However — already happy in an unexpected way, and my goodness, isn’t that the best sort of happy?

IMG_7188

That’s a Moo bump — best surprise I ever got! (Not the bump *shakes head* the Moo)

There is no set-up. No 400 questions about who I am and what purpose this device will serve. Nope. No updates. Enter email and click, off to the races!

Y’all, Chrome KNOWS me. I signed in and all of my bookmarks and stuff are here. All.Of.Them. Lemme be clear, bookmarks I lost in the reset six months ago are back. That’s right. Would I like to see Marian Allen’s Rice Pudding for Joey? Hells yeah! Would I like to search the Indianapolis Public Library? Absolutely! What an exciting night to be alive! Would I like to check my bank balance? Nah, I’m good.

Okay, but it’s Thursday and I had no doors. Poo. I’m behind 110 posts. Boo. I had to hurry home to change clothes, take Moo to a thing, then go to two shops, then walk the dog and feed the cats, open boxes, make some sammiches, fetch some pies, and later I pick Moo up from the thing. See, when you’re not the early bird parent, you gotta do the night owl parent shit. Tit for tat, eh?
BUT THEN, then I’m gonna have a long, hot, single girl kinda shower and put on my striped pajamas and get into my warm bed and sleep my face like it’s 1973.

For tomorrow is Friday and on Friday we work. With a full-size keyboard. And two monitors.

Any Chromebook users? Tell me.

You’re happy. That’s good. Funny how brick&mortarstores say on lines cost them business. Then they do it to themselves. Went to a B&M retailer, “We only have that on line.” Back home, I find a store that price match and had free one-day shipping. Score for me. No sale for the retail store.

  5. You are NOT behind with posts. Can’t happen. But you may have ideas starting to ferment for new ones.

I’m glad we can’t go back and post for the days we missed – what a temptation and a time-suck that would be. Onward and upward only.

I like tablets. I don’t have a Chromebook Like you I love that Chrome goes everywhere I do and remembers me. I just need a bigger screen to work with. I found doing the blog on my phone or tablet very hard. I have the portable keyboard and mouse, those help a lot. I just need BIG screen. Glad you like yours!

When my laptop crashed a few months ago I bought a new computer for Clara and a Chromebook for me. I dig the cloud storage for my stuff but I don’t like the way it handles pictures. I use the Chromebook for most things but I still use the computer for picture download and blog writing, I really like the speed and simplicity of the thing. In time I am sure you too will become quite fond of your new not lappy.

One of the things I thought of while I stood there was that you’d liked yours, so I’m glad you’ve reinforced that. I think I will have to do a lot of photo editing on my phone and then add them to Drive. I don’t know yet if I’m a fan of that. I do think eventually I will buy another PC for other functions, so maybe I’ll be like you there. I love how the Chromebook just goes. It’s just ready to go every time I pick it up. Love that!

I’m glad you’re back in business, tiny KB and all. I’m sure you’ll get used to it, and if your fingers fit, you got it.

I have a tiny KB for my iPad. It’s way bigger than the on-screen thing I’m using here but smaller than laptop. I don’t have tiny hands.

All my devices are now Apple. I drank the Koolaid and I’m now a diehard convert …. except for the struggles I’ve had the past many weeks trying to *like* and comment on posts. On some blogs it was a virtual impossibility. Turns out it was one tiny setting caused by an upgrade that caused all the chaos which a fellow blogger pointed out.
So basically it turns out that none of the devices and their makers are completely foolproof 😏

Happy Friday, Joey. Hope your weekend is a good one!

  10. I’m generally not a Google platform fan. Those bastards know too much about me already…. but I’m glad you’re happy with the new “puter. Try not to get pecan crumbs on the keyboard… no matter how large they are, they don’t like that.

LOL! I can’t keep the crumbs down, I just can’t! That, and ceiling fans — utterly hopeless/lazy in these circumstances!
I agree, as much as I liked all the time it saved me, it’s creepy Google knows me so well 🙂

I do the Apple thing. I don’t like laptop computers by any company. Give me a big screen with a large keyboard sitting on a stable table top. Or when I’m feeling frisky, I’ll use a sassy little iPad. But no laptops for me. They are always difficult, in my experience.

Oh Ally, your comment makes me smile 🙂 “sassy lil ipad’ 🙂 You know what you like, and I always love that about you!
I lurve Apple and will do all the iThings when I am done paying everything for all the children. Small sacrifices for big love ❤

  12. I’m PC, and don’t remember what my laptop is. I have to find it. I put it somewhere “safe”, and can’t find it. Sigh.

I’m glad you’re happy and the bookmarks are back! Hope you slept well!

  13. Glad you’re back in business. I use an iPad Pro for almost everything. The smart keyboard is nice, and I can lick the crumbs off if I choose, because it’s sealed tight. I kind of want pecan pie now though.

The Chromebook doesn’t run Windows, does it? That’s a point in its favor.

My lappy is an HP. I’m an HP fan. It runs Windows (ick) and Chrome browser. Does Chromebook store stuff on itself, or is everything in the cloud only?

It’s all cloud. If I want to use Word I gotta get into The Mister’s. So I will get another PC another time, but for now, this lil thing is GREAT! My last two lappies were HP, I like HP too — and not just cause I’m a Packard 😉

  17. I had a tiny Netbook for years that I thrashed like it was a high-end desktop computer. I had to send it into early retirement when it started taking 15 minutes to wake up. I looked at Chromebooks but I like plonking myself in a cafe to write sometimes and not everywhere has wifi and my phone data is not generous enough to use it as a hotspot. So, a laptop it was but I got a Samsung ultrabook with a SSD and I thought I’d gone to heaven.
Hope you survived your Friday and are now enjoying the weekend. (I can’t be bothered to figure out the time difference but it’s Sunday here so I’m assuming you must at least have made it through Friday by now.)

Sorry, MacBook here. I LOVE my Mac. I have had it for 3 maybe 4 years and I still don’t know all the whistles and bells on this thingie. Only Apple I have in this house except for those in my fridge. I bought it for the photography bit of my life and boy am I EVER glad I did! Resolution brings me to an orgasm. Um. Well. Dang can’t quite believe I said that especially online and it may be a bit far fetched but you know what I mean. I’m lappyhappy. As for your Moo bump ….. GORGEOUS! Moo is one lucky girl to have a Mom like you. Now for hitting the face thing ….. been doing that lately and cannot even believe how fast morning comes. I’m out like a light! Happy Weekend, dear Joey! 🤗

My big screen option iPad Pro is kinda/sorta like your Chrome Book, everything in the Cloud Apple-style. And with my little remote keyboard it’s my LIttle Lappy for blogging/home stuff that (mostly) makes me happy, Joey. Yes, more pricey than your route, but I appreciate the photo-and-otherwise synch with my iPhone and workplace Mac desktop.

I’d like to Chromebook, but I have fat fingers on fat hands on fat arms. So I need something a bit bigger. My current laptop is a Toshiba Satellite with a 15 inch monitor and that’s about as small as I can get. I can comfortably type on it, which is nice, but I also have a number pad which is a must. So I guess I could potentially go for something smaller, but if there were no number pads, and that’s a no.

I have looked at the Chromebooks, but moving to the Mac laptop from my old giant laptop was already like “oh, the keyboard is so tiny”. Now I’m used to it, so I’m sure you’ll get used to yours in no time. That’s awesome that you got all your bookmarks back! Love that Moo bump!! That’s a great surprise. 🙂

I love my Chromebook, despite its limitations. Do yourself a favor and get a big ass Google Cloud drive for like $2 a month, install Google Photos on your phone, and set it to automatically upload. You can also upload photos to wherever they were before to the Cloud. I love it.
