Is is Friday?
This week has kicked my ass and it’s only been two days back at work. I know, you think like, Aw, Joey got into holiday mode and she is struggling to get back into the groove. Um, no, that is too simple for Joeys.
Straight away upon my return to the office, Mentor came in all urgent about deadlines for Friday. Five of them. I could not understand her panic. Have I mentioned I am always alarmed when I am the calm one? Extremely unsettling. We have deadlines every day, many on Fridays, and five is completely doable. She is the mentor, she must display only strength and cleverness. I’m not saying deadlines aren’t challenging, but not tizzy-inducing. I went into What Can I Do To Help? mode. I said, “I’ll take what’s behind door 2. That’s vaguely familiar…” and Mentor was all, “Tremendously helpful!” Wonderful.
And then, it hit me: All due on Friday and oh my fucking god it’s not Monday, it’s fucking Wednesday! EVERYBODY PANIC!!!
Sickly Christmas day, mmhm. Not quite up to par on my return Wednesday, but I’m a trooper. Got better as the day went on, what with the coffee and the panic and all. ooh, i’m feelin so much better, see all i need to go is go home and rest and i’ll be set! Loudly told my office mates, “Going directly home! Staying home!” HUGE SMILE. Office mates so glad for me.
At bedtime, my in-laws called and asked us, begged? us to come help them with ‘the last little bit’ of their move. I would never blog (unfunny) commentary on my in-laws, because they have earned my respect and because they are the very soul of generosity and I love them. I will just say we are disappointed in them and we hope they have learned their lesson and will make better choices next time.
On Thursday, I wasn’t sick. Just tired with achy, swollen hands. Take the pills, drink the coffee. Door #2 completed. Ready to go home and stay home. Haha! No. Hadda pick up Moo and Kitty up at mall. Picked up food. Drove in dark and rain, during rush hour, my absolute favorite.
The boy one arrived.
Sassy suggested the boy one take my cash and drive her to DQ to get treats for the whole family.
I said, “No.”
“No?”
“No. My reasons are petty, selfish, and unreasonable, but no.”
“But ice cream.”
“It’s dark and rainy. Someone will crash you and I’ll have to leave home. I’ll have to go to the ER while you have CT scans and x-rays. No.”
Then she suggested we start a movie as a family. I looked at her crazy and pointed to her father, who had already begun to sleep on his propped-up palm, “I have to be in bed. I have to go to bed before anything else happens.”
“It’s not even 8.”
“Can’t. Gotta be in bed.”
Truly. This week I’m havin. It’s a week.
The Mister has assured me I can do all the nothing I want on the weekend. He’s gonna collect people and return people who will come here to do things while I do nothing. He’s gonna bring food for us all to eat while I do nothing. When he’s not doing those things, he, too, will do the nothing. It’s going to be momentous.
Happy Friday Everyone!
Here’s hoping you thoroughly enjoy the nothing.

I hope Friday slides by smooth as ice and delivers you home to nothing, Is this a 4-day weekend? If so, double-down on the nothing. Have to say, seems a bit shocking to pass up ice cream.
We are working Monday morning – seems odd, but there it is.

I feel that my disinterest in ice cream was an adequate qualifier for exactly how much I did not want to run the risk of being out! lol
I bought ice cream tonight. Lots. Plenty for four days 😉 I’m workin Monday 10-2 and that’s just fine, gettin time and a half, not too shabby for Joeys!
Thank you very very much and I wish you a happy 2-day, then a happy workday, then a happy new year to you!

Thanks! I’ve saved a mindnumbingly boring task for Monday morning. Scratching that off the list will be the task of 2018. I hope I can do it without sneaking a look at the Twilight Zone Marathon via my iPad. Must not watch at work!
Enjoy it all, especially the ice cream.

Well, mindnumbing work should definitely earn you some Twilight Zone time!

Happy Friday, Joey. Four-day weekend coming up. Again. And Wednesday is gonna be a Monday. Only the year changes. Happy New Year.

Yes ma’am — you enjoy your 4-day — Imma have 2 days, then work 10-2 at time and a half, and then have a day off 🙂 So much nothing to look forward to!

Hope your weekend lives up to its billing. We were completely shut down at the office yesterday. It’s that whole internet thing that’s happening from coast to coast. Things are working today, so it will be a panic day.

Oof! I hope you made it work! Even though our main resource will be closed, we’re going to work Monday 10-2 at time and a half. I am NOT complaining 🙂 I will likely wake on my own, and after all that nothing! Cheers to your weekend!

I wish you could have had the week off, Joey, rather than the many deadlines on a Wednesday morning, along with the leftovers of not feeling well. But today is Friday and soon you’ll be home, in your jammies, doing nothing but laying around and laying around and laying around. Enjoy your weekend!

I am in my jammies, simple foods in the oven, playin online, very very happy to go nowhere. Mentor said she’s going to advocate a week off next year at the holidays. We’ll see.
Thank you so much — all the best to you! 🙂

What is “doing nothing?” I don’t comprehend that phrase. Perhaps I am missing something and need to give it a try as well.

I know. I can’t do nothing, either. It’s terrible. My version of doing nothing is doing as I please at my own pace. I will do some laundry and some cooking, but I will do way more lounging. I don’t have to go anywhere. The MIster blocked my car in, too 😀

I almost had a cold the day after Christmas. I did not do nothing: I slept pretty much all day. Oh, and I drank a ginger ale. Then I went to bed early and slept the night away. Would that be called snuffing the candle at both ends? ANYWAY, I did NOT have a cold the next day, so yay sleep (with special guest star ginger ale).

You’re very wise. Very wise indeed. Sleep is SO restorative. I had too much of it robbed from me in recent weeks. This weekend, you shall be well and I shall be well and sleep shall come easy and steady. This is my wish. No more snuffing, no more burning, just steady flame!

Well not yet. We just returned from the market — 100x100s tomorrow, and we contributed to the after swim brekkie! BUT, I go nowhere all weekend! 😀

Good luck. Those nothings can be elusive.

Indeed. We just returned from the grocery store. We bought for the swim team breakfast. We also bought for the five extra kids at our house. When we got home, The Mister blocked my car in. Til 10am Monday, I go nowhere! 😀

I am being lazy and have been eating too much lately but it is a time to try and do as little as possible but “seem” like I am contributing! Haha! It is something I learned in my 50’s, so I am now a “pro!” 💖 You go, Joey! Have a fantastic New Year’s Eve and see you in Instagram land. XO

Hope this was a weekend filled with more nothin’ than you could handle. And those were perfectly unselfish reasons to say no to DQ because SLEEP, woman, it is the only thing that makes it possible to run the household and do all the stuff. Priorities.

Whenever the boy is supposed to go to bed or do chores or something, he always asks to watch a TV show or a movie (and he always picks my favorite) together as a family. Manipulative little turd.
