So I got a new phone. I get the new phone, Moo gets my old phone. The Mister got a new phone, Sassy got his old phone. It’s what we do. I think a lot of people do that.
Getting a new phone is right up there with getting a new laptop, or in my case, non-laptop.
Who could complain about getting new things? Me. I could.
Y’all, I don’t like new things. I like old things. A lot. About the time I love old things, they die. I know, there’s a metaphor in there, but it’s like, old things are resplendent with goodliness and character. I could write a series of posts on old things I love. Some other time, mayhapsly.
While we were having the phone data transferred, I looked for a new phone case and I came across this pretty clear case for my rose gold phone and it had sparkle glitters in it and I thought it was so neat, but it was too neat for me, because it cost an ungodly amount of money that made me suck air through my teeth and ask the rep, “Seriously?” what the fuck does it do? does it stop time? does it call your mother-in-law for ya?
Somewhere, there’s a woman with an iPhone X Whatever in a sparkly glitter case and I bet she has her nails done. She and I have nothing in common.
I’m in dire need of a new phone here myself, but I don’t want to part with Tink (that’s her name, yes, I named my phone, doesn’t everyone?). Hope you get used to your new phone in no time. 😊 And hope your new year is starting out fabulously. ❤

If you want your phone to work on Bluetooth or Apple Car Play, I think you have to name it! Tink is VERY cute for a phone!

Haven’t named the phone, and I felt bad leaving my car, Liz, in NJ.
It is good to have the phone. Now, when I block the internet to write, I am still reachable on the phone if anyone really needs me, and I can glance at incoming email and ignore it.
I didn’t have an iPhone for a very long time, and now I can’t imagine not having it. It is, however, heavily underused for what it can do, but even husband uses it to take pictures (renovations details) and mail them to his computer. So easy!

iPhones are the easiest ones. When I got my first one, I too, became a convert.

I should have known earlier (and husband got me a perfectly good older model) when I realized certain adult women I know (and love) had no trouble taking and showing pictures of their grandchildren, etc., because Apple has people like them exactly where they want them: being served.

I think we bought the same ungodly expensive case. Kate Spade? It’s pretty… but damn!

Oh, I didn’t buy it. Liquid sparkle glitter lovely that she was, I bought the plain rose gold one for $49, and that still about killed me! lol — Of course YOU bought it, you always have your nails done! 😛

I bought it, used it for 2 weeks and then switched to a Lifeproof. More protection when traveling!!

AH! I am beginning to feel better about not getting the sparkles. Protection is tops.

I love the Old Ones. You know.
BUT.
I also love my newest phone, and my newest compy. Also Otterbox phone cases. Its nice to know my phone may or may not cause a minor traffic accident if it flies out of my pocket and bounces out into the road. Makes it more noticeable when its gone, you know. 😉

Sassy is an Otterbox person. That is equally for our benefit, because she makes me look careful and graceful! I do like the weight of my case, it feels substantial — good point!

I’m not crazy about buying a new phone for a variety of reasons with #1 being dealing with the wireless company. There’s this added charge for so long, then there will be a potential credit for this thing, and then the bill arrives and small words fly out of your mouth. Then add to that learning about the new parts of the phone. I’ll keep mine for a while and avoid the hassle. There’s another post here – a review of a X. 🙂 I always chuckle when I upgrade because I can remember back when the various carriers set up their store, and I thought to myself how are they going to stay in business. I seriously thought we’d buy a cell phone, it would work, and we’d keep it. I never considered that compares would make new cell phones available every six months and people would stand in line to upgrade. Yep, my age is showing, again. 🙂

I get that, I really do. You know what’s funny to me? They made them smaller and smaller and then bigger and bigger.
I didn’t get an X. I probably won’t get an X until they’re on model Z8. LOL People who have the X now probably don’t complain about costly cases.
I hate setting things up the way I want them.

I don’t need a new phone I want a new phone. My phone is adequate but I am sure there are faster ones out there with better cameras. Normally I like to keep my old comfortable things but when it comes to electronics I don’t mind “upgrading” one little bit. I think you should get that fancy case. Then when folks see it they will comment ” Look at that fancy case. I bet she gets her nails done”. Good luck with your new phone.

I’d never abandon my iPhone, but the Galaxy phones take exceptional photos. I got a rose gold case with a year warranty on keeping my phone intact and it was $49 and it about killed me.

forty nine bucks!! That would kill me. Galaxy is the phone I covet but I can think of no reason I would pay $900 for a phone. I will just make do with my LG.

Sorry you don’t have sparkles for your phone. I am away amazed by how much some cases cost. I need a new one, but holding out.

Thanks, maybe next time. I only get a new phone — well, this is my fourth, ever. I got a plain rose gold case that put a year warranty on keeping my phone intact and she’s pretty, even without sparkles.

I HAVE A ROSE GOLD IPHONE, TOO!!!!! I have a clear case for it, but no sparkle glitters and I bought it online for about five smackers, including a screen shield. And if I have my nails done, I do them myself, which is why I sometimes have nail polish on my palms and nose.

I do my own nails, too! I’m pretty good at it, you poor thing, but I haven’t taken the time and now they’re all broken and crazy-edged like a clean zombies nails would be.
Rose Gold is one of the best colors EVARRR! I had a clear case on my white phone, but this time I got a rose gold case that put a year’s warranty on my phone and she’s pretty and heavy, no sparkle. Maybe sparkles some other phone. I do like sparkles, Marian.

“Clean zombie nails” …HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA! I bought some press-on color–not nails, just the color–and did a not-so-bad job of it. Might do it again for the book-selling season. I have some that is…yes!…sparkly!

I have a very sad case for my phone. It’s almost time for a replacement case. Miss Sunshine ended up getting a Lifeproof case for Christmas. I like how it’s less bulky, but still protects the screen. Ain’t nobody got time for a cracked screen. I hope you get lots of enjoyment out of your phone. Next time, I’m getting standard size, not the plus. It’s too bulky, but I can’t justify replacing it yet.

I understand. I have little hands, I honestly prefer a smaller phone, but not so small I can’t read it. My case is Speck and I like it, but it doesn’t have high-priced glitter. I hope you get your sadness sorted soon.

Me and Gibbs from NCIS had flip phones. It was fine – pay as you go and I got few calls anyway. I had computers, an iPad with a hot spot for data, and I was happy. But the teasing and jokes overcame me (look, a dinosaur holding a dinosaur). I miss my flip which took about $50 a YEAR out of the budget to keep, and cost less than that to buy.
(next thought of your jot) But, I loved this line you wrote so much, I plan to use it as a writing prompt for one of my writing groups: “old things are resplendent with goodliness and character.” That’s me, sitting in the corner losing my religion. And just how the feck is a computer/phone/camera/vibrator that fits in the palm of my hand “old” (iPhone 6)? Good grief. 🙂

My new phone is only a 6S, the ones we passed on are 6.
You are resplendent with goodliness and character, it’s true. Thank you! You must take the line and surround it with your dinosaur words 🙂
My in-laws only recently abandoned their flip phones, bless their hearts. They got tired of not being able to DO things, though.

I’ve noticed that flip phones are being relegated to ‘burner phone’ status on the cops and robbers shows. Every bad guy had a burner to toss in the trash when cops come.

I went with the Otter Box, too, because I tend to fall asleep while I’m playing a game (my favorite lately is Numberama) and drop it on the floor. What a drag it is getting older….

It’s not age, John — Moo is 15 and she does it all the time. Sometimes SHE falls off, too. Can we fit Moo with an Otterbox? 😛

I’ve only ever bought cases on amazon. They have tons of options and are hella cheap. Lots of sparkle options… and most do a fine job of protecting your phone. My current case cost $7.99 and should last me several years. Last case I had for my previous phone cost a whopping $13.99 and lasted the entire two years I had that phone.
Otter boxes are awesome but bulky. I prefer lighter cases, but I am not an active youth. 💕

Excellent point. I have bought many cases on Amazon, but this time, I wanted to be done when I left the store. Just done. LOL It was Christmas Eve. I actually enjoy the weight of my case. I think someone should do one with weight, and with a bit of silicone on the back, just a bit, maybe ridges, because slidy and I aren’t pals.
It’s nice to see you and Happy New Year ❤

Yeah mine has silicone so it doesn’t slip out of my hand or off the arm of my recliner. Lol
I’m not doing great but I’m trying to do more when I can. So it’s nice to be seen on occasion. Thanks. 😊

Haha! I know! Seriously, the last case I had was WAY too sleek! It would slide off the seat while I drove, slide into the impossible crevices or fly into the floor! This one is better, but it could benefit with more traction!
🙂 Always good to see you!

“Does it stop time?” Lol. I have to remember that one! I love old things so much that I waited until my old phone completely died to the point that they couldn’t open it, and I couldn’t transfer stuff and I had not backed it up right so had to start over with phone numbers. Thankfully my favorite photos were on the laptop. I could pay someone to get stuff off my old phone, but it doesn’t seem to be that big a deal. Just a lesson learned: when this phone gets old and starts acting weird like my now dead phone did – I need to take it to the phone place.

Oh that’s a hard lesson to learn! I’d really like an online storage place for my photos, but they’re all either pricey or way too public for me.

My what a flurry of conversation you sparked with this little post! Hubby, the young one and I all got new phones recently. We transitioned hubby from his Android to an iPhone so he could be in on all the family messages and so I would be able to troubleshoot for him when he had a problem. We traded the young one’s in for $130 credit on our bill, I sold my old one for $70 to a friend and hubs is keeping his droid and using it like a tablet – lol. My new phone is RED and I DID get the Kate Spade case with the sparklies. It is clear so the red of the phone shows through and has white flowers on it with the bling in the center of the flowers. It was free because we’ve been with Verizon for SO long and we were, hello, getting 3 new phones! We also got a “bundle” that included chargers and external battery packs. Yes, our phone bill is high but we have 3 “smart” phones, a basic for my 95 year old mom and our home phone all on the same plan so relatively speaking it is not that bad.

I have an iPhone and a love/hate relationship with Apple: like the products I have (including a very old but still working iPad) and hate their arrogance, refusal to make anything go with anything you already have, etc. I have an UNU recharging case because Apple phone batteries are built to obsolete. 🙂 My phone started primarily as a camera that could go everywhere, although I use it for more now. It’s just so small that I prefer using a laptop for as many things as possible. Love/hate technology, too, or at least the use of it everywhere and at all times and the lack of personal engagement because of it. 🙂

I dislike the compatibility features of Apple as well. And I wholeheartedly agree with you about some of the pervasive rudeness and evasion of society through technology. Like so many things, the tech is a tool, and can be used for good or evil.

I have a plain rose gold case too … the heavy duty version because I need the extra protection. Sparkles don’t work for me unless they provide bubble protection. An hour after I got my new phone I dropped it on the garage floor. THAT’s why I need a heavy duty case. I should thank the guy who suggested it … I would have needed at least 3 new phones by now 🙃

I had a Lisa Burton case for my old phone. Zazzle has this thing where you can add your own photo to a case. When I got my new phone, I got a basic black case and kind of like it. Now we both need Pop-Sockets.

I looooove new technology stuff. I can no longer justify upgrading every couple of years because I know there isn’t THAT much of a difference, but I still love new tech stuff. I got an iPhone 8 a few months ago, after having the 6 for a few years, and it has been nice. My poor MIL bought an iPhone 8 last week, didn’t get a case, dropped it on cement, and cracked it.

I’m now a HUGE fan of battery cases. They’re a bit more expensive than some cases (but not the one that almost made you upchuck), but they keep a full phone’s worth of charge in it. It’s like 2 batteries in one! I can’t live without it now.

Those are great. I barely use my phone. Most days I get down to 85% by bedtime. I have a charger in my car and at my desk for those times my bosses or kids keep me in phone mode.
