It’s Epiphany. For Christians of various sects, this means different things. For me, it means I take down my holiday decorations and sing to my husband, “Christmas is over, Christmas is over, it’sa gonna be gone soon…” to the tune of “Christmas is Coming”. He likes that song.
The Mister was ready for it. He asked me earlier this week, “Is it Epitome or whatever soon?” Epitome. *snort*
He hauled all the boxes out to the garage and we cleaned up all the glitter and needles and we sighed the nice sigh.
That’s why we were so chill yesterday, cause today was the take-down event. I’m making two meals today, so we can reheat later this week. Less cooking for moi, merci.
Also, The Mister went to the Redbox, where he got a movie that I would not enjoy and then he said, “Oh, and I got this movie with Keira Knightley, Colette?”
My eyes almost fell out of my head. Then he began to tell me what it was about and I let him, cause he dunno what I know. I merely nodded along happily.
“I would very much like to see that movie!”
And so, the marital bliss continues.
*sigh*

I did the same today. Only I’m one box short. A few things didn’t go back in their boxes. Sigh. He-Man has mostly put all the boxes away.
Yeah! To continued marital bliss! Long may it continue!
Going to look up that movie now.

I actually need another box, too. I put the huge plastic ornaments and the kind that ‘stick in’ in a huge bag and put bubble wrap over it. I may go ahead and buy a huge bin next year. It’d be nice to have it all-in-one again. Right now I have the tree and two.

Truth! I bought a few more ornaments in 2018. I bought some golden flocked small and large trees for my mantle, and a Hallmark Nostalgic and Shoppes 2018 ornament which I’ve been purchasing since the 80’s and love them so much I can’t stop and Santa and Santa in a Train ornaments. I’m an addict with a problem I confess, but hear me. I will not be cured of this addiction! EVAH! I love me some Santa ornaments, and Nostalgic Homes and Shops Ornaments!
So, I needed another tub or box. A box arrived!
My new mesh stainless steel strainers and macro photography tool came in today and lucky me the box fit my golden flocked trees and gold paper maché reindeer! The only things that needed a new box for storing this year.
My cake strips arrived too. Now I just need my new cake pans to arrive then I’m going to be trying to bake and decorate a beautiful but calorie conscience cake. A smaller cake in volume…not by calories I’m afraid. It’s all about portion control! Smaller cake = Smaller calorie intake!
I’ve always wanted to bake and decorate neat and beautiful cakes. Of course I want to eat too…let’s hope I don’t get as big as a house learning to do it! Staying in my clothes est trés important à moi!

You must Google almond flour olive oil cake and chocolate quinoa cake. Both are delicious while being more healthy. I don’t mean they are okay for healthy cakes, I mean, they are delicious!
My first job was in the cookie decorating shop. I was pretty good at it, but not Pinterest good! I hope you enjoy this new hobby, and of course, CAKE!
I have a very diet conscious friend and we learned not to let her serve the cake. It’s quite sad, small cake, LOL!
I don’t decorate much for the holidays, but what I do have is very special — aka, Maman’s ❤

Gave it all away when we moved. We may have a tiny Christmas tree in there somewhere – not sure – will look for it next year.
Couldn’t compete with the decorating in the halls around here, so didn’t even try. Plus no room this year in the inn – we don’t even fit!
The kids got their pick of the good ornaments, and that was that. Christmas was always for the children – we got our first tree when the first kiddo was on the way, bought it after Christmas when the kid was still a bump, used it the next year.
Maybe if I had any energy, much less spare energy, I’d be more interested. But youngest daughter had the habit of putting up a tree – and never taking it down – when she came home. Once it was down by Easter; the next year not even then.
Gets a bit much when you’re sadly lacking in energy to even brush your teeth!
This year was bad: we missed Christmas Mass because the husband was too sick to go. THAT I do miss.
Kids make the difference for so many things.

Our oldest daughter is close enough so she came for Thanksgiving AND Christmas – that’s better than any tree.

I did a tree when I was single, big, real, fluffy trees! At school I did a mini tree and quite honestly, it’s all about the lights 🙂 Maybe as I get older and less interested in hauling things out I’ll get back to the mini tree. I like the lighted frames, too. That maybe will be my great-gramma thing 🙂
Besides, if there are already beautiful decorations all over your community, why bother?

I also had an epiphany about Epiphany this morning…tree’s going bye bye in an hour or so. Guess Christmas is dead…the epitome of the sadness that is January. Well, at least we don’t have any snow!

We leave it up this week. Tomorrow is the Orthodox Feast of the Nativity (their Christmas). The Editor celebrates and my dad’s side of our family did/does.

I intended to start taking decorations down this weekend, but a cold has made me not want to do much today. I had to rest, which means I didn’t go to church and I didn’t get out of the jammies. I also have the task of taking down the tree I put up at work and the accompanying decorations, so maybe next weekend. Maybe.

I left the tree all lit up because in 1/1 I was not quite ready to be rid of holiday lights – but now I am – funny how a few days made a difference –

I would give it a 3.5 out of 5 mostly on the strength of Kiera Knightly’s performance. She was incredible. But I thought the story lacked tension particularly the relationship between Colette and her husband. I loved the costumes and the scenery and the quirky side characters, too.

I liked it very much, as I suspected. It was not a massively entertaining movie. Very period piece, slow-paced and dialogue- heavy. Lovely scenery and music. I found it right for her story.

I just know I would love the clothes and styling of this movie…if they did right by the period. I love the clothes of this period. Not the corsets mind you, but the women and men’s clothes were so lovely then. We’ve lost a lot of fashion sense in the modern world en mon avis.

The clothes and settings were phenomenal, you would be pleased with the aesthetics. I enjoy the plethora of casual wear in our modern world, for if I had to live at the turn of the century, I would be a truly miserable bitch. Now, as for seeing everyone’s underwear all the gd time — NOT SO MUCH.

Ours came down today, too. There are just so many redecoration days I can handle (Rosey the de-decorator feline has had the trees down several times.) Epiphany! Love it!

Oh dear. I hope Rosey realizes danger soon! This year, I shoved the giant plastic ball ornaments deep into the tree’s branches so none of the kitties could climb it and I have to say, not a single bad thing happened. I was chuffed and hope that’s an effective measure in years to come.

I’ve made most of the ornaments with yarn. The rest are soft toys. I haven’t had breakables on a tree since my third son decided to bite one as a baby. That was scary and not worth living through again, ever! So now that there are only fur babies around here, I just kept the habit of soft Christmas. Still, the living room seems empty now.

After reading your post stating about Epiphany, I waited until today for Christmas removal. I boxed up all the decorations and the hubby and Big Mr. took out the tree. I find a strange, deep satisfaction in vacuuming up pine needles. I think because so many components of cleaning don’t make as much of a tangible difference as that does. lol. It’s so nice to have the living room back to normal. I haven’t heard of Colette. I’ll have to look that one up.

It is satisfying! Sassy said the dining room looks bare now, but I think it looks spectacular. Celebration is wonderful, but so is normalcy!

We took our tree and other decor down on New Years Eve. B’s mom waited on hers until today for the Epiphany. Nice having traditions.
I’ll have to look up Collette. I may have seen a trailer but right now I can’t place it. Nice when you both agree on the movie.

When I was a practicing Catholic, these were days in our liturgical calendar. I never did know exactly why. Now I do.
Epiphany is related to Epiphanytide, Christmastide, Christmas, Baptism of the Lord, Nativity of Christ. Epiphany is also Theophany, Denha, Little Christmas, or Three Kings’ Day, is a Christian feast day that celebrates the revelation of God incarnate as Jesus Christ.
Then I came across this one, The Feast of the Circumcision of Christ (Jan 1st) is a celebration of the circumcision of Jesus in accordance with Jewish tradition, eight days after his birth, the occasion on which the child was formally given his name. They’re not so good at math.

Marital bliss is a grand thing … which means that in our house, the Christmas decorations come down before New Year’s Eve. It’s one of my husband’s peculiarities and since he does a lot of the work, I’m not inclined to disagree 😉

Our outdoor ribbons came down 2 days after Christmas, Joey. Nuff. Enjoy your movie and smart move about the cooking. Hubby who is in charge of dinners has learned to cook for 4-6 helpings so that we have leftovers. I did that all the time when I was cooking. Why hubby cooking? Good question. By the time evening comes I’m wiped from taking care of cats, for one, running around in forests for another, and keeping up with this house, cleaning and such. I’m truly grateful to my hubby cuz he does stuff so that I do have a window of time to do my thing with my camera. That and I have learned how to split the time atom to make more time for me to do my thing. LOL Happy Monday!! 😻😻😻

Growing up, my mother didn’t usually do the cooking, either. She had certain dishes that were HERS and she’d make those. Now, those are the foods of home, hm?
My husband does a lot more now that I work, as is right, but we don’t want him cooking. He doesn’t enjoy it and he’s not particularly good at it. He’s better with tools and vacuums and elbow grease 🙂
I would very much like more time as well, so if you ever work out time travel, do give me the 411!

Hubby sees cooking as his job and deep down if he would just see it as an act of LOVE he’d be much happier and much better at it.
As for 411 …. I’m seeing something. Doesn’t make sense but I’ll tell you anyway. When I pace myself and do NOT rush, I get much more accomplished then if I had been running around chasing my tail. In other words, when you SLOW down and put aside the rushing …. time expands. I know it makes no sense … and sometimes despite all that, we all find ourselves chasing our tails. Just sayin’ ….. 😉

I don’t know how you do it. I usually rip Xmas out by the roots on December 26 or 27, but because my mother was around and badgered me, I left it up until the 1st. As much as i love it, I’m always ready to see it go!!!

Epitome. Snort!! Just got the last of my Christmas decorations put away about half an hour ago. My husband said they make his minimalistic soul feel a bit cramped when they’re up…but he misses them when they’re gone. He’s gonna have to deal, that’s all!! I have been known to leave them up until the end of January, but as I’m soon going to visit my parents in sunny Arizona, down they must come. And I think this is that last week the city picks up Christmas trees, so…
At any rate, that’s done, chicken stock is perfuming the house as it simmers, we’ll be watching the National Championship College Football game tonight, and life is good. Cheers!

Didn’t decorate this year because kitten. We did put up a picture of a Christmas tree, and I took that down on “Epitome.” *snort* I love that! it’s right up there with what my cousin called the board game: Monotony. But nowhere near as funny as what #3 Daughter said when she was trying to think of the name of a local church. “It’s named after a Loony Tunes character. … Oh, yeah–Yosemite Sam!” It’s named Gethsemane.

I drove the middle little person to NYC on Friday and turned right around for the drive back to the DMV. The first thing I did after the nine hour drive was take down the decorations. (They were only up for those little people anyway.) It was invigorating.

Isn’t it? II love the tree! I tried to get my family on board to just having the lighted tree all year, no one likey. lol BUT, Sassy and The Mister did say how much darker it is at 5am, so I put a lil lamp in there. Truly think string lights are the answer! 😛
