On Friday nights, we usually play musics. To be clear, I usually play musics, but sometimes people don’t vibe on my selection and we end up sorta battling. Y’all should feel sorry for me because trap music, bops, ballads, and worse yet, power ballads. Lawd.
Sassy’s deeeeep into an 80s thing lately, and I swear I hear Billie Jean and Toto’s Africa every day lately. I forgive her because she likes Wham! and she asks for Blue Monday.
Also, people in my house listen to Never Gonna Give You Up without ironic intention. In fact, half the time, I bet they do it to torture me.
The Mister still listens to the radio so he’s still a hep cat. I, on the other hand, do not. Okay, sometimes Q95, which is classic rock, but not mostly. Thus, I am destined to soon be listening to my version of the golden oldies because without young people around, how will I even know what’s current? I’ll be listening to nothing newer than 2022. That’s what happens, right? Maybe one of the young people will take pity on me and send me the latest tunes. Bubba and Sassy could do that. They know what I like. Not that they truly care, but they know.
None of this would be happening to me if MTV was still MTV. I’m just sayin.
My selection today stirred up some controversy in our household. No one here preferred the original, sorry Original Guy. Yes, yes, the piano in Johnny Rivers is brilliantly funky, but this is my blog and this is MY favorite version. I blame the Less Than Zero soundtrack. Which means I also prefer the Bangles version of Hazy Shade of Winter.
If you have to get the flu, get the Boogie Woogie Flu.
Jot!
HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!
Joey, I prefer the oldies and honestly don’t like the new music. So when you listen to your music know there is someone else who has no clue what the latest music is. Whatever. To each her own. Cool song, FYI. My feet are tapping! Happy Friday!

I too, default at classic rock these days. And I dont listen to the radio either, unless its the classic rock station from back home. All the stations out here play like..4 different kinds of country, pop, and “heavy metal” (read: Alterna-rock from the 90s & 2000s.) I dont normally listen to music when Im alone anymore though, unless company is around, or Im trapped in someones car. I just cant, since my brother passed. Generally.
I was out a few weeks ago with “the lady who was my nurse,” and I did enjoy turning her on to some traditional pre-viking proto germanic stuff I found somewhat recently. Heilung theyre called. Very primal, much ritual. She enjoyed it too.
Cool tune btw. Enjoy your weekend!

Okay, I’m torn between the sad of you missing Jay too much to listen to music and happy that you were out with nurse lady.
I’m totally crackin up about the ‘heavy metal’ there. Morning radio is unbearable, and I hate to say it, but I don’t like Q95’s djs so much anymore either. The ones I’ve loved have retired. God we’re old.

Classic rock rocks! I have no idea what is current anymore. In my car, I mostly (like all the time) listen to NPR. I have grown accustomed to those soothing voices telling me all the news I don’t want to hear. I do have a secret crush on Kai Ryssdal. He has the best voice…

LMAO! “soothing voices telling me all the news I don’t want to hear” Oh Lois, that’s precious! x

I don’t radio. I have my selection of tunes on Amazon Cloud and I play those, usually with headphones. My preference leans toward the older, more harmonious music, I think I agree with you on the Bangles. S&G’s version is more resignation, The Bangles are more rebellion. Or maybe I am full of it. Happy Friday.

I have no clue about today’s music – every New Year’s Eve, Kevin and I sit and wonder who whoever is up there singing is, and how on earth all those people in the audience know all the words to something neither of us have ever heard before. I’ll stick to the classics, thanks!

I FEEEEEEL THAT. Oh yes, that’s how it is.
Me: Who?
The Mister: I don’t fuckin know.

“None of this would be happening to me if MTV was still MTV.” #Truth I would have thought only Congress could screw something up so bad, especially something that seemed to be working. Maybe this gunk in my head for the last week has been the boogie woogie flu…but the Johnny Rivers 1972 version (cuz that’s when I was a young man).

Hey, y’all Happy Fry-day. My favorite Aerosmith is Dream On, dream on, dream on…; love the lyrics:
‘Sing with me, sing for the years
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears
Sing with me, just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away…’
Great family tradition, Joey. Tonight I shall too.

I think loving that song is required, is it not? 🙂
We’re doin musics now, Bill. Hope you are, too!

Yes, what ever happened to MTV? I never listen to the radio because aside from the same songs being repeated over and over again there are those annoying DJ’s who have to turn everything into some kind of dirty joke or stupid contest (and I mean a contest to see who can be the most stupid). Fortunately my vehicle (Moonglow) is bluetooth capable so I have my iTunes mix going. That can take me from the REAL oldies like Dean Martin and the 50’s up to a few newer ones like Bruno Mars. Add some country in there once in a while and you never know what you’re gonna get! Happy Friday.

My playlist is eclectic, too. It’s how we do, Janet 🙂 I couldn’t agree with you more about the djs either. Bleh.

Awesome. I have a “project” where Lizzie and the hat are playing that very song. It may come out someday. I also want my Mtv – back.

So fun to have a music night! We used to have Friday Night Groovy Night when the girls still were here & we’d break out the old vinyl LPs and 45s and the karaoke machine & sing along on the microphone.
I listen to the oldies classic stations on the radio every day, and watch/listen to a lot of Youtube videos for my music posts. Newer music, though, I mostly have no idea of, and don’t much like what I have heard.
Happy Friday! 🙂

Happy Friday! This version sounds slightly country and western, doesn’t it? Still rocking.

I control Alexa, therefore, my music wins, unless someone edits the Pandora Shuffle from another device. But we run the gamut from 90’s Country to Eminem to Classical to 80’s to modern hip hop and old school rap for good measure. Happy Friday!

But does Sassy like “Africa” by Weezer? Or only by Toto? I love almost all forms of music. Miss Sunshine and I do lots of soccer road trips and get tired of the way Top 40 repeats, so we try out the 80’s and 90’s channels and another from the early 2000’s. One of my children also added the 90’s alternative grunge channel to my Jeep and then my husband plugged in classic rock and some others. I remember the oldest’s 80’s phase. Each time he discovered something new, he seemed surprised that we knew the song. lol.

Yes! LOL They’re so funny! “You know this song?” Puh-lease! Also, I’ll never forget when the boy one got the music video games. Came to me and asked me to put BonJovi on his iPod. You know, new music, like “Wanted, Dead or Alive” LOL 😀
Sassy does NOT like the Weezer version.

Love this post, Joey! I’m schizophrenic when it comes to music. Alone, I crank up my bluetooth speaker and Pandora’s retro soul channel. But I have grandkids who listen to the radio with their parents in their cars so I get to know some modern songs and I admit, I like some of them. The middle little person and I bonded over “Sunflower” bu Post Malone over the holidays. Happy Friday!

I like the oldies. I listen to the radio in the car, but our stereo in the house isn’t working anymore. We’re going to purge it in the next neighborhood electronics dump day.
My favorite Aerosmith song is Sweet Emotion. Happy Friday Night Music Night!

I’m with The Mister. I mostly radio. Since I prefer a quiet background, for me music should be discreet, not in my face.
I can handle Classic Rock only in limited dosages. I like it, but not as a steady diet. My go-to station – appropriately called Edge – plays mostly new “alternative” music. I still haven’t figured out ‘alternative’ which I think falls under the category of rock. The problem is that I’m listening to a lot of music I really like but I haven’t a clue who the artist is or the name of the song. That’s where my age is really showing 😉

Okay, now I have TWO favorite versions. Never heard this one before, so THANK YOU! #4 Daughter does Spotify and is always coming up with some new group and/or style. Sometimes I like, sometimes I don’t. But always interesting.

Yaaaaaas! The Bangles’ version is the best!
Feel sorry for me. My kids have figured out that Alexa will play whatever crap they want. I went full-on mad monkey mom when I heard Whip Nae Nae one too many times. It is now forbidden and the kids get nervous when we’re out somewhere and someone else is playing it. To be fair, Felix is digging old REM, so that’s cool.

LMAO! I truly LMAO about the nervous when someone else is playing it. Effective Mymom, 2 points! 😛
Felix is so REM. Felix strikes me as an REM Green Day kinda guy.
