#ThursdayDoors — Jot 17

I liked this day. I woke before my alarm, I have a sassy new do, work was weird, strange, bizarre, and ultimately VERY INTERESTING, Office Assistant brought in the best snacks ever, my dog jumped on my lap and licked me all about the face til I giggled, and I had dinner (kind of) alone with my husband.

JOT

Our monies attended an event wherein we all went to the local Culver’s and ate foods. You may remember I also attended one where we were forced to choke down ice cream on a sunny day? Those are the worst fundraisers, aren’t they? No cooking, no cleaning, free refills. Root Beer!

Culver’s may not be something you have where you live, so I will do my best to help you understand the love. FROZEN CUSTARD. We Midwesterners eat our frozen dairy treats all through winter. We don’t care if it’s -40, yes we would like custard. When people around here talk about custard, they mean FROZEN custard. It’s a regional thing. Culver’s serves custard, mmhm, but also every freakin thing a corn-fed Midwesterner could want. Butter burgers. Burgers fried in butter. Yes. Crinkly fries. Onion rings. Cheese curds. Pot roast sammiches. Tenderloins. (Those would be Hoosier tenderloins.) Fried chicken on a mayonnaise-slathered bun. It’s all very very good.

Tonight, I had the fish. Really I had cole slaw, some fries, and the insides of fish — Sadie got most of it. Sadie wishes she could go to Culver’s to help clean the kitchen floor.

They’re not paying me anything, I’m just tellin you, is nom. I didn’t get any custard, because honestly, I have a pint of their custard in my freezer and that means I can have it any time I want. That last party pack came with a complimentary cooler one can take back and use to get more party packs. It’s like they know we’ll be back. Again and again.
(I guess you could go there and order soup and salad, but I dunno why you would do that when you could get a party pack… but I bet the soup and salad are yummy, too.)

The Mister and I sat alone in a booth while the teens sat with their teen friends. I tried to get a picture for my prompt of the day was “corner” asking us what was around the corner, but Moo wouldn’t cooperate, put her hoodie on her head, totally not willing to be shared on Instagram. Some other kids were into it, so I took a picture of not-my-kids instead.

Aww! Thanks, Kids.

Anyway, then I stopped and took pictures of the doors, cause, well, life is busy, but it IS Thursday!

  1. There is a Culver’s in my town. I love the shakes, but they are too thick to drink so I always tell them to add extra milk so I can drink them.

They are building a Culver’s here—right down the street from me. No idea what it was, so thanks for all the info, Joey! New ‘do? Photos to follow?

Hey, sometimes it’s the doors, sometimes it’s the fun and good food inside the doors. Sounds like a great time. It’s 6:45am and I am hungry for a butter burger, cold slaw, fries and custard. I’m gonna need something good later today.

When I was growing up, my grandparents in Brooklyn always loved custard, Joey. Then all of a sudden I discovered when I moved that Long Island folk called it soft ice cream. I like the name custard way better.

I have never been to Culvers. I am not sure why. I have heard so many good things about them. Custard, Butter Burgers, curds. I must rectify that soon

We have Freddy’s Frozen Custard, which opened its 300th location in Indianapolis, Indiana in March 2018. I have never been, so cannot attest. Reading on, there is a battle of the best custards between Freddy’s and Culvers. We have both within my driving route tomorrow. I am not sure I will go for that until the temp rises. Maybe.

Culver’s Fried Fish Sammie is my favorite thing there. All the rest of it, frozen custard included, is merely window dressing. Bring me the fish!

I’m trying to understand the custard. Is it flavored? Do restaurants up there have custard wars?

Charlie is all about the soft-serve ice cream. I’m like Meh. Especially Culvers’ which is ONLY VANILLA with bits of stuff in, each kind of bit costing EXTRA. Ptui. I’ll take my calories in roast beef or fish or something salty and greasy. Culvers, though. Mmmm, Culvers.

  12. If that door leads to Culver’s and frozen custard it is the winning door this week. I’m going to tell you a tale. NH doesn’t have frozen custard shops AND they close up the ice cream stores in October and reopen in April. How do they expect people to live there? 🙂

I can’t imagine eating frozen custard but hey, I’ll take your word for it 😉
Sure does look like a good time was had by all, and in the end whether the doors are pretty or not, good times with good people is all that matters.
BTW, I added this to the link-up list for you.

We do not have a Culver’s and I’m starting to think that’s a travesty.

I haven’t been to a Culver’s, but I’ve heard of them. And while we don’t have any that I know of in Virginia, since I’ve left Florida, they have come to two of the towns where I previously lived. I suppose that I should try them when I return. 🙂

A hamburger place opened up here a few years ago and sales frozen custard. Omg it’s heaven! The milkshakes are the best ever. My husband says it’s too sweet, but more for us.
