I Could Never Be a Breck Girl

Oh that was such a Tuesday. Good mercy.

This weather though! Windows open at night, warm sun on my face in the day! Ooher! Slept like a baby last night, 8 solid hours. Woke up tired. How tired? I drank a cup of actual caffeinated coffee.

Work just be mayhem. People quietly clicking and typing and getting papercuts like whoa.

Been tough times on my upper extremities lately. Overextended my right thumb trying to open a box, got two papercuts, tore a cuticle on a cutting board, slept wrong and got a crick in my right shoulder — then some Paul Bunyan-lookin mofo came into the office and shook my hand like he was so pleased to meet me, he’d planned to take my arm with him when he left! When all that was healed, the doctor gave me a tetanus shot in the left.

Today my hair is somethin you’d see in a shampoo commercial from the 70s and I’m the Before girl who can’t get a job or a date or whatever, because is it straight? is it wavy? is it curly? kinky? big? flat? frizzy? Yes, all.

I picked up my kid at six and said, “Ya know what I like?”
“Hmm?”
“Home.”
And I did not pass go and I did not go to the gym or the park and you couldn’t convince me to, either. Even if you have big brown eyes and fluffy ears and you have indeed been a very good girl all day. Mama no walkies. Mama sit.

unnamed

Now, SHE could be a Breck Girl.

I had to go home and put on my pajamas and read blogs and wait for my husband to bring me a foods. Three waffles, three eggs scrambled, three bacons, and four strawberries. Yes, you read that right. (Okay, so I gave Sadie the floppy bacon bits, but don’t tell The Mister. He cooks on Tuesdays now, and we don’t wanna muck that up!)

How’s your weather? Whatcha been eatin? What’s up with your hair? How’s work?

  1. Exactly how many cups of that caffeinated coffee did you drink?

Weather is cloudy and a chilly 15°C. Hooray for actual autumn. I’ve eaten all the Mars Bar slice a friend gave me to share with my boys. Sucks to be them. Yeah, yeah, I know, I’m overdue for a homemade buzzcut. Tomorrow. I promise. I don’t want to talk about work.

Tuesday has been a bear…I am also in pjs, but unfortunately I am making dinner for myself as hubby is out, but they make a mean shepherd’s pie at the grocery, so that’s in the oven…now back to my wine!

Oh my gosh–I so remember those commercials! Of course, we used that shampoo. And getting kind of humid here, so one can well imagine….
Loading……..so I cannot like this post, but please know I do! I cracked up when I saw ‘Breck Girl’!

  4. LOL! You crack. me. up! Oh, woman, where to start? I’m packing, and packing and don’t want to give up things I should and I think I’m given up things I’ll miss and regret, but, but I’m supposed to be downsizing! Going from a 4 bdrm house with a family room to a 3 bdrm house no family room. There is an indoor laundry room, and my bathroom is huge, I have a walkin closet that’s nearly as big as a bedroom, and I’ll have a real dedicated dining room, so. I’m in agony! My hair. It’s been raining so much that I gave up blow dryin and trying to do something super chic with it. I’ve been all in with the curly gurl method and I’m not happy. My hair isn’t the right length to have lovely ringlets all over, course half my head curls one way the half another, and there’s some that just want to stand straight out or be straight and cause all sorts of mayhem. Baby Girl says I should go back to a pixie, He-Man says do whatever you want I like you anyway, and well, do I have the patience to grow it out to shoulder length so the curls start to form nicer ringlets? I’m getting real close to saying NO!

Weather has been partially sunny, but windy and chilly…blowing my hair to even more of a mess. The bane of my existence…my hair!

What have I been eating? Well, I need to lose some weight so less bread, salads, more meat, dark chocolate, and red wine. Oh wait, that’s drinkin not eatin.
All is going about right here! 😉

You could certainly hold a pixie cut, with your cheekbones and girlie eyes. Your hair and my hair sound a lot alike. Seriously. We have, like, a whole hair thing most people cannot fathom, hm? I’ll tell you what, I can’t do short. It just doesn’t suit me. I said ten years ago never again and then I did it and dammit, that was dumb. I gotta listen to myself. I liked it for a very short time. I need shoulder length, then ringlets are a possibility and triangle head isn’t.

It’s such an exciting time for you, though! Not that it isn’t hellawork, cause it is, but it’s good — good, good, good!

      • I didn’t think I could do short either, but when I had longer hair and would put it up several friends would make comments about good it looked and “you can do short hair so easily!” remarks.
Then the pixie craze started and thought what the heck let’s do it. I prayed I wouldn’t die when I cut my hair! I didn’t!!
Triangle head! I get Cone head the most, but have had Triangle head too many times to count. We are in the same boat!

Honestly part of me is holding off going back to the pixie because my Stylist will give me a great cut, and what if I can’t find someone as great in my new home. I am going from a major city with a million plus people to a town of 3,000+, and the whole surrounding area has less than 70,000 people!
There’s no electrologist! I may be making trips back here just for that!.

That may be the hardest part about where I’m going- there’s not a lot of everything like there is here.

I get that. I have lived in remote places as well. Used to drive 90 minutes to Savannah to do most anything. Ugh.
I struggle with anything above my chin. Trust me, I can’t do short-short. I believe you can though, truly!

we were just talking about the “firm handshake” and how it is not always appropriate –
and I hate it when someone does it to me – guess it is a sign of respect – but I rarely shake hands at al – still doing the obama bump
and the hair you mention actually sounds purdy.
thanks for the nice doggy pic (woof)
and side note – I thought of you on sunday when i sent the group text for yoga – I have to send a group text because it is to hard to do it individually – and there are always these couple that send a reply – when it says
****no reply text**** before and after the ocntent –

so this time I added in a few more lines and said something like
Please do not send any comments via this group text – email me privately
and not one person sent a reply – whew –
and I was thinking of when you shared recently how your phone goes off with those group texts – and i am with ya – no thanks for me too

I appreciate your efforts in both group message and handshake politesse. Seriously, the man was no less than a foot taller than me, well over two hundred pounds of ripped flesh, and had a right arm the size of my thigh. Jeeeez that hurt. Firm is one thing, yankin me like a giant oak branch, not so muches.

  6. Found a shampoo and conditioner that makes my old-lady hair feel and act like my hair when I was 14 and it was thick and heavy and straight, while my sister was wrapping her crown hair around a frozen orange juice can, and using the rest of her head like a giant curler to wrap the rest – because hers isn’t straight.

    Hair is important.

  9. Sometimes you just have to pass Go and head for home. And waffles. Wish I had a night where the husband cooks. Our weather has been bipolar… sitting in the deck in a t shirt one day, shoveling snow the next. Bizarre.

I always have to laugh a little when I read posts about hair. I have so little that I dry it and “comb” it with the same towel motion. I think days like this are worse in spring. Spring is supposed to be all about energy and new happy things. When spring wears us out, it’s supposed to be that “good kind of tired.” Sleeping 8 hours and waking up tired is winter-tired. Dinner sounded very good. I think Sadie deserved a little bacon, and I’m glad you snuck her a piece. Here’s hoping Wednesday is a better day and the weekend arrives early.

I’m with you on the sleep. I need some good sleep. I’m havin a rough spring and I’m gettin tarrred.

I so love the sun. Now that the weather is starting to get more civilized I will be out more. There is a new joint close to me so I went there and got a delicious “authentic” cheese steak and a couple of very tasty beers. It is a mash up of Hoagies and Hops and Chilly Water Brewing. What a blessing; especially since Happy Brewing folded. One thing the weather can’t help is sleep. I can not remember the last time I slept 8 solid hours. I hope all your owies heal and the rest of your week is good.

I’m envious that you are able to sleep with the windows open at night. We can’t take the pollen. My husband suffers from the allergies. Plus, Georgia has this stinking pine pollen that spews yellow stuff. It ends up everywhere. The other day I saw it in the air and it was thick. I could see it rolling off the hood of my car. As far as eating? I haven’t been a fan of food lately. I eat what is necessary.

I been thinking and I’m sure I had a flu something last week. Nobody gets that down from a cold. Yesterday the high was knockin’ on the 90’s door. But it is nice. It rained over the weekend. I’ve decided that all good food (besides pizza) comes on or in a tortilla. I have not seen my hair in ages (I miss it), and I have not seen work in four years (I don’t miss it).

And a flu? Gah, isn’t that a pity! I hope you’re feelin fine now. Tortillas are quite tasty. My family ate bueno burritos takeout tonight. I wasn’t feelin it. I had Cheerios with strawberries.

There’s something in the air. I haven’t had time to anything that I like to what with all I have to, well, at work anyway. 🙂 I saw your shoes email and can’t respond yet — no time! AND my shoes arrived, but I only have pics of them, not them on my feets. so…..

“How’s your weather? Whatcha been eatin? What’s up with your hair? How’s work?”

Warm. Whatever I have handy. Ponytail for about year because it’s just too much work to hair for work. Work – I have the next 4 days off and I. Can’t. Wait. (’nuff said)

Did you get the posts by email? I signed you up!

I DID get the post via email! At least I did yesterday. I’m not caught up yet, there may be more, I dunno.
I have been doing 9 and 10 hour days for quite some time — so much that when I leave at 5 – past my actual time, I feel like I’m cheating. It’s rare. Tonight three of us left at 6 and we were just beat. We are getting out of the woods we got into with staffing issues and illnesses, so there is that. PLEASE enjoy time off for me, because I cannot, as of yet, take some time away.

My hairs are each doing its own thing. It’s Liberty Hall, up there on my head today. I found what Charlie calls “a pisspot full” of morel mushrooms yesterday, and we’re feasting on those. Mmmmmm! I did Q1 Royalties for Per Bastet Publications today–ALL IN ONE DAY! I am so PROUD of myself! (Imagine that in Grover The Muppet’s voice.) Poor Sadie! You need a very long leash, so you can open the window and stay home while she walks.

Office work is hard on the hands. Mine still hurt because they’re 60 something years old, but they don’t hurt as much as when I worked in the office. Yesterday, this old guy (older than me) gave me the hardest handshake I can remember. It HURT! What’s he trying to prove? I should’ve said, “ouch!” My hair is way overdue for a trim. It reminds me of Janis Joplin.

Windows open and warm sun…ahhh. I’m sorry that firm handshake man tried to take your arm with him. Sleeping cricks and papercuts always hurt way more than you think they should! My hair very rarely cooperates. Today was rainy, but tomorrow I head for the Sunshine State! I’m hoping it lives up to its promises of sunshine! Last summer it greeted me with a torrential rainstorm upon my entrance. But really, the forecast looks pretty decent. 🙂

And I want to live in pj’s and order Chinese! Thankfully M is a good cook when I say will you? We divide our labors well and easily. I can no longer be a Breck gurl in that my grey hair is thinning so badly I am thinking os shaving my head.
