Always I saw great doors. Sometimes when The Mister drove, I’d snap shots. Rarely, they came out well.
Bit crooked. Best one I got, though.
Can we marvel over real shutters in use? I love that part. I really like the door and the windows, and the gate.
Of course, the flora is hideous because it’s all tropical and pokey-spiky-ick. Also, as we all know, Florida is inherently evil and full of fire ants.
But you know, this is still a pretty house and a good door.

I agree: pretty house and doors and I’m glad I don’t live in Florida. 🙂 You forgot the no-see-ums. I love really shutters, of which there are many in France. I’d love to have workable shutters on our house someday, although I don’t know it will ever happen. Also a large porch.

Pretty house, nice photo. But I don’t like all that foliage stuff in the walkway leading up to the door. Let the door shine on its own, I say.

Great doWor. I love functional shutters. I think more houses need them. Wouldn’t that be cool?Closing the shutters whenever it stormed.

Yep. Florida. I like the two lions. There is a sign on the left door. I know why they have those shutters and hardy plants.
We lived in base housing on Guam in a cinder block house with serious thick working shutters that I would close and lock with a large nail. I would shut them before the pending typhoons, right before I would evacuate moving all the airplanes to Okinawa, leaving our families to ride out the storm in man made caves with thick shutters. We had nicer plants, until the typhoon. Boring doors though.

Fire ants were my sworn enemy when we lived down south. I spent months trying to eradicate their overnight hills and years with two completely swollen feet because I’m allergic to their bites. Nasty bastards!

I’m very sorry the fire ants did you in like that. 😦 Two of my kids had bad reactions to being bit by “the queens”. Terrible. They are VILE.

Those doors are typical of the “fine” southern towns – so much detail. I’m not a big fan of Florida – although the beaches on the western side are amazing.

Great door, on a lovely home, with pretty shutters. As for Florida…well for the sake of not piling on, I’ll just grin and nod in agreement with your assessment of the place.

I’m so glad I’m in California – the mugginess of the East Coast was killing me.
If you have sturdy real shutters, you don’t have to board the windows up for storms, though you might have to worry about whether the shutters will stay attached to the house!
I used to do DASOs for the Navy and did a bunch of those in two years. They would rent us a two-bedroom condo with a pool for three weeks – Cocoa Beach/Eastern Test Range/Broward County area. Those were air-conditioned – or I wouldn’t have been able to sleep.
Tourist-Florida, not the real Florida. It didn’t seem all that different from New Jersey. Same stores.
Oh, and we were evacuated to the mainland for three days for Hurricane David – the palm trees were horizontal. Impressive. Three days in a motel – boring.

Hacienda muy buena! Love those two little windows and the thing between them, above the door. That is a truly nifty find, Joey, and an excellent driving door shot! I was lucky, and never ran into any fire ants in Florida OR Texas. Now I’m afraid to push my luck by ever ever ever going back.

pokey-spikey ick is the most accurate landscaping description I’ve seen yet. I will henceforth be using it to describe all uncomfortable looking plants that make me wonder what on earth people were thinking when they planted them.
