The Weekend Whooshed By

Do you guys know I still blog just about daily? I do. I just don’t post them. Some of them don’t feel like they’re ready to be released into the wild yet, some should maybe be deleted, and others, well, DO I EVEN HAVE TIME TO ADD PHOTOS? and also, I often sleep too late to link up.

School started last week. Is the officer out there to control the intersection lights in the morning? No. They send out emails, “Make sure your kids cross here.” What a joke. Cars can’t even cross the street, so much chaos. I can’t wait until all these people tire of driving their kids to school. When they lose their motivation, the situation improves greatly. Like how annoying the gym is in January.

Annnd, when in your life have you ever needed a 2″ or 3″ binder for school? Did you need two of them? They’re huge. We could fold Moo in half and slide her in one. I’m a much happier mama now that I don’t get a long list, but I still shake my head a lot and ask, “Are you SURE?” The Mister’s entire military career fits into a 3″ binder with room to spare.

Also? I remember absolutely nothing about chemistry. It’s like the chemistry went into my head and then fell out. It was 1992 and I had Dr Jay Wile, who was jacked-up on Diet Coke and paced the entire time. He blew things up every Friday and pop-quizzed us on it every Monday. I loved his class. I got a high grade, no retention required. Apparently.

The boy’s still on the couch. He took his father apartment hunting Saturday. I couldn’t go.
I had to have a date with Sassy, who took me out for a pedicure and sushi because she wanted to do something nice for me. I DO feel special.

Moo went to a birthday party, for Moos are social creatures.

The Mister and I went grocery shopping Saturday night. Alone. We had not bought groceries alone in many months. It was rather sexy. Yes, I’m serious. I do so enjoy his company, my goodness we do have fun together…

Sunday we cleaned and he laundered and I baked and prepped and he grilled and he ran errands. (Rumor has it he filled my car up.)

All of that went too terribly fast. I would like another weekend, but instead I will take the girls to school, where the officer will not work the light, and then I will do the workee work. I may well live to see another weekend.

In the meantime, here’s hoping this week is kind to us all.

All weekends seem to do that. Whoosh right past. Too fast. Even the boring ones.

You have a husband who cleans, launders, cooks, runs errands… and possibly gassed up your car? That’s sex on a stick right there. Lock that man up… he’s a keeper!

You said, “I remember absolutely nothing about chemistry.” These are the 2 things I remember about chemistry. First I never caught anything of fire, which meant the teacher automatically gave me a “B” or above. And second, I understood nothing about any of the experiments but I could write clearly about my confusion so the teacher gifted me with more than one “A”. From this class I learned that good writing could get a person far in life.

School started already? Our schools open next week.
We always grocery shop together…I enjoy it. Decide on coffee…flavored (for me) or not (for him). Fun stuff like that. Happy week to you, Joey.

What? School already? August just started. Talk about early …. And I’m not too sure about those binders, either, Joey. Just how much stuff do the teachers plan on giving their students? I hope a happy week for you too, dear friend. Stay away from the news and make your own world full of bubbles and JOY!! 🎈🎈🎈

There is Sunday, then they’re all back to work (or school) day, then first Saturday, Hump Saturday, Throwback Saturday, Fish Saturday, Real Saturday, and then there is Sunday again (retired)
I recall Chem 101 Prof saying, “forget everything you learned about chemistry in high school.” Large auditorium, but I said out loud, “So far I got an A” (got laughs). It didn’t end like that, but I passed. I got a BS in Sociology in the College of Agriculture, none of which is possible today. Raised two Chemistry majors. Not my fault. 🙂

“We could fold Moo in half and slide her in one.” I love that! I have to buy the office supplies for our office, and it pains me greatly to buy binders of any size. “We have Terabytes of reliable, safe, secure storage people!”

I am impressed that you guys can grocery shop together (I won’t go into how it makes you feel). Individually, we are so-so shoppers. Together, we are bad. We buy stuff neither of us would ever buy while shopping alone.

I think there should be a special space in hell for people who act like idiots in the school pickup/drop-off process.

I KNOW! This generation should use LESS paper than we did! Good mercy. Makes no sense.
Although, Sassy has a class where digital notes are the norm, and this pleases me.

I fought a good fight against paper, but I lost to “but this is how we’ve always done it.”

I have one boss who doesn’t give a fig about paper until the final product and another who wants every draft — every revised draft — every annotated draft from start to final copy. You may recall I like paper clips, but there are times I want to staple the drafts shut, like, “MOVING ON NOW.” LOL

I am happy I no longer have to worry about sizes of binders, although I really did love getting school supplies since Office Depot is one of my favorite stores. I always managed to get myself a little something. Wonderful husband who helps you with the things. Mine does on occasion but then he is retired and I still work so he should, don’tcha think? Happy Monday!

He cleans, does laundry now and again, grills out fairly often, and he certainly totes kids about. I DO think your retired husband should be doing more of the household business, obviously.

My most embarrassing moment as a new teacher was putting a 3-inch binder on my school supply list. I don’t know what the fuck I was thinking. I had quite a few complaints, and even though the binders ended up being used for all four classes, those things still weren’t half full by the end of the year.

God I hate the school traffic. At the school near us, people start lining up to pick up their kids almost TWO HOURS early. TWO HOURS. The whole line takes 20 minutes to get through once they start going, so they get there two hours early just to guarantee that their kids can leave school 20 minutes earlier than the other kids. It’s a two-lane road badly in need of repair, and people also end up waiting in the road, and then I end up having to go 10 minutes out of my way because I can’t see around the all the cars parked in the road. They’re supposed to be fixing it, we’ll see.

That’s so sweet of Sassy to treat you ❤ ❤

Sassy is a precious child. Precious.
I cannot believe two hours early. That’s insane. No. No way. I like to be ten minutes late 😉 They’re almost the last kids left and I drive right up and they hop right in. Of course, your people are still small, and that might scare them :/ at this point.
3″ binders are ridiculous. On behalf of all the complaining parents, I forgive you.

  10. Haha . Gyms are very annoying (and crowded) in January. It always remind me of church on Easter.
    Have a great week.

  11. We grocery shopped together all the time before kids, now it’s just once in a while.

How lovely to have a date with one of the girls!

Week-ends do whoosh by! I hope we all live long enough to get another one too! Hope you have a great week, and traffic at school isn’t too bad.

So strange to think school will be starting up again. Seems like they just got out for summer! I don’t keep up with it any more, but it was such a big deal when we were kids, and then when my girls were in school. Loved all the school supplies …still do! 🙂

  16. Not only weekends whoosh by–July did, too!! Sounds as though yours was good as well as busy, which beats busy and not getting anything done or just getting annoyed. I don’t go shopping with my husband often because a) I go while he’s working (and never, ever on weekends unless absolutely necessary) and b) because he always wants to buy things not on my list and often not good for him. 🙂

Good to hear from you, Joey, and have a great week.

Ew the kids are back to school ALREADY?! Gross, that’s way too short of a summer IMO. I love how you love the Mister, it makes me happy and to have hope. Speaking of hope and having – I ‘hope’ you ‘have’ a great week ahead Joey! 🙂

  19. I homeschooled – I didn’t have enough energy for dealing with a school or three. Honestly, common sense is not on the curricula.

I am Dr. Science. The husband is also Dr. Science. You are not required to retain anything you learned that didn’t lead you, on your own, to further explorations of the topic. You have too many more important things that you DO care about to take over the storage space in your brain. I think all subjects are taught so the little ones get exposure to them and find what they like, what they will pursue with passion.

And can make daily decisions about basic money topics, and know when to go see a doctor (many of these topics come from parents, not school).

If you have a kind daughter who wants to do things for you, you have succeeded. Period.

      That’s very nice, you’re right.
I love that about my youngest kids right now — they’re taking classes to see where their interests lead. They feel incredible pressure to know what they want to do, and I feel like, nah, you get to do this a bit more in college, you still have plenty of time to explore.
Not remembering things I know I once did daily is eerie! But you’re right, I didn’t need chemistry outside of practical applications.
Schools get worse every year. Whenever I talk to other people who used to teach, we wonder how we got so unlucky. Volumes have been written, but it’s gotten… well, Imma let it lie.

I applaud you for still writing your posts even if they don’t make it into the wild. My voice seems to have all but dried up. Keep writing, Joey.

I like the “binder of life”. When all is said and done, what paper will really matter? What matters is your family and how you love each other and show each other you care, like pedicures and sushi with mom, grocery shopping with your beloved and apartment hunting with dad. You can’t put that in a binder.

When the company my husband and I worked for went under and they were giving away office supplies, Joel brought home about 12 of those 3″ binders. I have no idea why. I guess just because they were free. Hope this week is a good one!

We have one more week then the kids are back in school & I’m equal parts excited & terrified at the idea of reentering school day schedules. Then again, them starting school means I can finally stop carrying this stupid supply list around, crammed in my purse, begging me to buy the last few things so I can cross them off and burn the damn thing.

Well, I see another week and weekend whooshed by and I forgot to come visit you. So this is old news, but I hear you. The last two days went by too fast and I didn’t really have a chance to write anything…except in my head. It’s life keeping us busy in a good way, Joey, and I think neither of us have any complaints about that.

And we had dinner guests cancel coming over for meatballs (it was a day before invite and had two yes’s and a maybe that became no’s)
And so we went to Lowe’s baby. Grocery store dates sound fun and the Lowe’s time together can be a blast too- lol

    Those binders do sound ginormous

Our weekend whooshed while getting prepped to start the school year. As of right now, we don’t have a person directing traffic in the morning. I was like, “what”?! Teens crossing everywhere…teen drivers…buses…traffic in three directions. I was happy that every other day she has to be there an hour earlier so we deal with no school traffic. I picked her up once in the afternoon and yeah, that ain’t gonna be happening. lol. I hope your week has been kind so far. 🙂

I remember those days. Now all my chicks have left the barnyard. More time with the hubby is nice now that he is retired but I am still trudging through work life. I do miss the chatter of the wanna be roosters. And the feel,of their little arms around my waist hugging me. Sigh…
