Hope for Tuesday?

WordPress email be like, “Don’t just look at your stats” or whatever, but also, “Check out your competitors.” My what now? Competitors? Who the fuck is competing with this blog? What would that entail? She’s more neurotic? She finished her back hallway the year she started it? She doesn’t have to slide her knee skin up to shave? Does she post every day? Well la-ti-fucking-dah, good for her.

I really shouldn’t blog when I’m in a mood, but here we are.

Yes, I have actual problems like everyone else. However, I shall blog to you about all my petty annoyances and worries.

It was Monday and I had to go to work and therefore I had to take my pajamas off and put on a bra and shoes and make sense of my hair. My poor mother had a procedure today and I had trouble not checking my phone every 15-20 minutes, waiting for an update. Only half our swimmers made it to practice and my whole family napped off their sick all day. Reception had a plumbing crisis that kept her home. It was raining, which, let’s face it, is fine enough when you’re all workee workee indoors, but then, when I thought I’d work late, and was about to wrap up, the rain decided to intensify and so I worked more late, because work is preferred to anxious driving in rush hour, with poor visibility and the floody right lanes. The Mister thought he would help out, and tried to order quesoeverything takeout. Well the phone at the restaurant wasn’t working so he went to the place and it appears to be closed. Twenty-five years of nom, all gone? We are fairly devastated. So he went to the … more…  the … less… our place was kind of an authentic dive and the other place is sorta … it’s not a dive, it’s… standard, common, pedestrian, predictable, cliche, even. It’s not dark, there’s no tacky bad art. The tables aren’t old as me and they don’t serve drinks in red pebbled plastic tumblers. The food doesn’t arrive remarkably fast, even for takeout. It’s not our place. We ate some of it, but it’s just not our place. Bleh, there was no comfort in that food. My mother is reportedly in a great deal of pain but she’s OK and we’ll know more after her appointment tomorrow.

I have got to go put on some jammies, eat a Dreamsicle, and sleep my face.
I’m reluctantly pinning a lot, ALAWT, of hope on Tuesday.

Hope mom is better soon. I know how that stuff goes. Too bad about “your place.” Hate when my faves are no more. Like, was I the only one that thought it was that good? I prefer “like minded souls” to “competitors.” Tuesday will be much better, although I know Tuesday is not usually your day is it? We’re rooting for you.

  2. Sorry it was a tough one – and I really feel for your mom. Give her my best.

Insist she get her pain meds – they have this stupid idea people will get addicted in two days, and some places you have to ASK or you don’t get, instead of them being professional and managing it for you.

    It will be better Tuesday.

  3. My thoughts ran much the same way when I read your first line. Except instead of a hallway perhaps my competitor has managed to Marie Kondo her whole house instead of just her sock drawer.
Sorry it was a sucky Monday. I’ve just had my Tuesday and it wasn’t too bad – it was sunny and I got to knock off early from work – so there’s hope for you.
Hope your mom feels better soon. (My Aussie dictionary spell check doesn’t like spelling that word with an o instead of a u…)

      Thank you 🙂
Marie Kondo the hall closet. That’s where the magic happens 😉
I’m off Thursday and Friday, downtime here I come.
My ‘mum’ is OK, healing time now.

  4. The yellowjackets are back – thank heavens. 🙂 I think WordPress is run by 19-23 year olds at this point and anyone over 29 is not even part of their demographics. There – I feel better now. I also hope your Mom is feeling much better. To take or not to take pain meds is a hot topic. A small plastic pill cutter costs $5 or less, cut the pill in half, get some relief, and also not worry so much about taking them. When a favorite restaurant shuts down, there usually is not an easy transition to a new one. Nope – not going to lie to you about that, but I am thinking Tuesday is going to be a great day – go for it. 🙂

Tuesday was much better, indeed, thank you.
I think you may be right about WP bein run by young uns.
I’m certain she has pain meds. Papa sent me a photo of her today, she was upright and dressed and other than the giant eye patch, she was foxy 😉 But you’re right, I know the pain meds are a hot topic. I can’t take most of them and they wanna give them to me. Meanwhile, other people who can benefit from them want them and can’t get them.
I strongly suspect you enjoy my rants, Judy.

How is it that you got this email from WP? They never send me a thing unless it’s a bill for my blog account. I believe that I do not exist in their world view, being a mere personal blogger– ignorable. Plus they think that the idea of competition is what’ll get you to post? Honestly it’s like WP is clueless or something…

I’ll be damned. I just typed this whole piece about how you rock, and I hope mom is not in too much pain and joked about WP making me sign in even though I AM SIGNED IN. And then it kicked me out. So here I am commenting on Reader….Happy Tuesday, Joey.

Hope your mom is feeling better today. It is worrisome to wait for updates from afar.
That is a weird message from WP!
Sorry your favorite place is no longer there. Maybe y’all will find another great one soon.
Yay Tuesday – bring it on! 🙂

My mother is OK and yes, it’s harder to be far at times like these :/

  11. Hope your mom feels better today. One of our favorite restaurants has gone downhill and we’re looking for a replacement. It’s funny how that stuff seems to matter. There are people without anything to eat, so I ought to have that perspective. Hope tuesday is better for you.

  12. This is a great post, Joey. There’s no one out there that can compete with you, not even me (not that I’d want to – we’re all in this together, right?).

“red pebbled plastic tumblers” — I FEEL YOU. Something’s askew in the universe. I’m facing similar familial challenges, et al. Today is cloudy and gray and super blah. I do believe it’s caught up with me. See, if I didn’t eat so much ice cream, I coulda ran faster. (Nah)

Hope things are improving. I’m not going to get Chinese today, though, just in case my favorite new place decides to mimic your old favorite place. I can’t handle that place closing… … …

I love that bit about outrunning the gray, if only you didn’t eat so much ice cream, lol!
I hope your familial et al situation improves as well.
Our favorite Chinese closed while we lived elsewhere. We came home all excited to.. Oh No!
The Mister grills tonight! Tonight, we feast!

I think WordPress is under the impression that everyone that uses their platform is doing so to sell lots of stuff and advertise and whatever and not doing it for shits and giggles the way most of us are. I discard almost everything I get from them.

  15. Tell me about it! We’re struggling here to find a Taqueria that is as good as “our place” in Silicon Valley around the corner almost from our old house. We miss the Senora, her salsa bar, and me her tasty carrots and onion escabeche. Her’s was the best!

Our favorite “sit down” Mexican close last year and we’ve not found a place as good here either. We were going to that place for decades. It was our birthday, and celebration place too. I feel your pain and loss over your favorite place closing.

I hope your Mom is out of pain soon and has a speedy recovery!

Thank you. Not too sure about my mother, but she’s OK and I’m grateful for that. She may have an outstanding recovery, it’s too soon to tell.
I think we all needed comfort food last night and no one had the energy to make it, so the Mexican place being closed was 10x worse. That’s a pity about your place, too. It is hard when you move. I hope you find your new Senora. In Georgia, our place was Sushi House and it went out of business shortly after we left. ie, we kept them busy!

It’s Tuesday. Any better? Mom is doing okay, right? What about Joey and the fam?

I’m not going to say anything about the weather because after a most glorious autumn Sunday, it’s been a rainy, windy, sucky two days. Nope, not a word from me. I’ll sit here and wait quietly for the sun to reappear.

So, I’m your competitor? Fancy that. Well, I’m with you on the la-ti-effing-da! I rarely, rarely look at stats. You know why? Because I find it silly to base my self blogging worth on them. I love to write, as I imagine you do, and I love to interact with you and all of the others in the blogosphere. No competition needed unless we meet one day, in person, and I race you to a bar stool or the next new favorite place to eat, that I’m sure you and the Mister will discover soon.

Thank you, Mary. My mother is OK and it may take 8 weeks to determine her final outcome, but she’s OK and I love her and I am relieved. I love rain, I do, but I wasn’t in the mood for it at all, and my joints have hurt for over a week, so I also want some sunshine. Steady barometer, steady!
I wouldn’t race you, you look fast 🙂
The Mister is grilling us cheeeeeeeseburgers and I am happy about that!

I’ve had problems with comments and had to load Google Chrome. This tech stuff is nuts. Anyway, I tried to reply earlier, but it would not let me. Looks like it will now. I see no reason for you not to write in a moodly status. This was good. i hope your Tuesday was magically wonderful as a Tuesday can be.

Same. Six years on the loss of Happy Garden. I don’t think it’ll ever be replaced. We have found Foon Ying is okay. It’s okay. We can commiserate together there. Dumplings, man, I’m all about dumplings.

Hugs to your Mom!!! Hugs to her joey!!! I’m sorry about your eating place. I went to my hair-cutting place, and found it had been replaced by a dry cleaner’s. Now I have to find another hair place. Hopefully, the new place will have hair cutters who can follow simple directions. Yeah, but the old place was so cheap!

I’m glad to read that your Tuesday was better than your Monday. And sorry that your Monday was so stinky! I do sometimes get WordPress emails, but I don’t always read them. I’m not sure I have any competitors. lol. I hope that your mother is continuing to recover from her procedure and that she is feeling better. I haven’t lost a favorite restaurant, but I’d be sad if I did. I hope you find a place that can become a new favorite.

I am hoping Tuesday brought its game face for you and, if not, that Wednesday kicked its ass for slacking off. I hate (and hate isn’t a strong enough word) when someplace I’ve emotionally invested in ($ too, man) FOR YEARS just up and shuts its doors. Where is one supposed to resettle those comfort cravings? It takes time to develop that kind of relationship. I send you deep sympathies in your queso place mourning time.

You must rate or something, Joey, cuz I never get emails from WP unless it is to notify me that it is time for my yearly fee. Now I feel like you’re top brass getting all that attention and me, I’ve been forgotten in the melee of WP buried under a ton of blogs. Competition? Gag! Who in their “right mind” would even care about nonsense like that? Ya blog just cuz ya do and that is all that’s to it. As for your fav restaurant …. may she RIP. So sorry she no longer is there for your comfort.

  26. Hi Joey. I’m glad to read that your Mom is better. Your opening comment about the pressure to compete on social media hit home. I hate it. I don’t want to compete, I want to create, communicate, touch people, heal and thrive. If someone who is better at worrying about not being good enough they can have my crown. Great post. 🙂

Wow – I am really far behind in reading. I’m working my way back, and I was “oh my God Joey posted on Tuesday and I missed it!” And I almost never say “oh my God” I go with ‘goodness’ because what does God care if I miss a blog post – but a Joey post – yeah, he gets it.

Restaurant closed? That is so sad. I know that sadness, it should not happen. I hope this Tuesday, which is only two days away , is much better and if you post, I should get here sooner to encourage you to keep posting.
