Halloween or Hallosnow?

I’m a cold weather person. I’m compact, fleshy, red-faced, HEARTY as you would expect a Midwestern Mutt to be. Were I a bird, I’d be a fat feathered black-capped chickadee smiling into my suet. I delight at the end of summer, as I know, especially after my seven years in southeast Georgia, My Body Is Northern.

So when I saw yesterday (Halloween) would be in the 40s and snowy, I wore a long-sleeve button-up shirt AND a v-neck sweater, because I’m me. And while I thought my ensemble was the most masculine thing I’ve worn since ever, I was certain it was warm enough. My mistake. How cold was it? It was your-dumbass-needed-a-coat cold. Cause y’all, it was 40ish at lunch, but by quittin time, it was 33 feels like 24 and the wind was blowin so hard my eyes watered!

I’ve long contended there’s always a freakishly cold day in October — one that makes you panic about whether your kids’ winter coats still fit. Halloween was that day, right at the very end. Fortunately, everyone’s coat still fits. And more fortunately, today’s forecast is 47 and sunny.

Sounds like a good way to start the weekend!

Happy Friday Everyone!

  1. And, they say there’s no global warming. It hit 70 here last night at 6 p.m. 🙂 Throw a jacket in the car, you need a jacket just in case. 🙂

I DO have a jacket in the car! (And a blanket, and water, because you know, I had two dads, lol!) But you know that jacket was COLD too!
70 at 6pm on a New England Halloween — WILD, but wonderful!

I may be from the North but I sure don’t dig cold weather. I am glad Friday will be 47 and sunny. However right now it is 27 and I have to go see a doctor. Bah Humbug. Happy Friday to you as well.

Its been in the low 30s here all week. I think I really felt it only for the first day or so. Since then, its been pretty enjoyable. No snow here yet though so theres that.
    Happy Weekend!

  5. Been cold here, too. Kept the number of trick-or-treaters down. That’s unfortunate, because we always had such fun as kids. Feels about right compared to past years. I always tried to talk my daughter into an Eskimo costume, but she was always some kind of princess. Eskimo princess? – nope.

LOL Eskimo Princess! We never, I mean, NEVER get any trick-or-treaters. This usually has no effect on The Mister, who buys candy like we get 1000 kids at the door. However, this year, he said, “Turn off the porch light!” I said, “No one’s coming, no one ever comes.” He said, “But this time we don’t have any candy!” Heh!

      • Sound like he’s adapted. It’s sad that things like this seem to be going away. Some of it’s weird people. Some is more supervised options like trick-or-treating in auditoriums.

Well, in our case, we live on a dead-end street behind businesses and the interstate and most of our community doesn’t even know there are people living back here 😉 We have few neighbors with little kids — one takes the kids to her mom’s and the other is religiously opposed to Halloween. We do have a toddler a ways down, but I don’t know them. At all. I was surprised they made a people, as they do not seem to like people 😛

Love the leafses. ‘Tis FINALLY cool (I won’t say cold yet) here near Philadelphia. I’ve been wearing sweatshirts for weeks trying to get it to be cold. Yesterday was 72. And swampy. Ugh. Now it’s cool (heading toward cold)…. AND I GET MY HOUR BACK this weekend. *faints*

    Happy weekend, Joey!

Right? I woke up at 10, which was really 9 — or 9 which was really 10. Either way, I slept soundly and I count it as a win!
I hope you get some cool weathers consistently for a while. I want you to enjoy sweaters and boots 🙂

  7. We were in a cold snap for a week. Our lowest was 12 degrees. Too cold for me! It’s starting to warm up though. It’s supposed to be 61 today. I went out for a walk yesterday and I will again today since it’s warmer. One brave lady in the neighborhood was out walking when it was only 22 degrees this morning! I saluted her from my window, but she didn’t see me.

I’m glad everyone’s coats still fit!

You really will be adjusting to your new winters, hm? The first cold snap is right up there with the first heat wave — almost no one likes them! LOL I be all, “Where the hell did THIS come from?” 😛

We had a Halloween party once where we had a snowball fight. Usually, it’s perfect fall weather, but it was yucky damp and cold this year. Beautiful today, though. Look at that sky! So BLUE!

Equally blue here today, too! I shall tromp in the leafeses again!
Hah on the snowball fight! I don’t recall another snowy Halloween, but I do remember a scorcher one. You’re right, usually ideal fall weather.

  9. We’ve been setting record lows the last few days…got into single digits Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. WTF? It’s god-damned October!

Hitting the 50s by the weekend, though, so rant over. Enjoy your Friday.

I can’t say it’s unusually cold here, but I can say it’s been consistently colder, and we usually have more of a back and forth than what we’re having. I hope you enjoyed the temperate weekend 🙂

We had the opposite…it was 84 freaking degrees on Halloween, so humid too. I bought a Hocus Pocus themed long-sleeve shirt and had to suffer in it because I wasn’t NOT wearing it since it was so cute. It was 35 this morning. Craziness, but getting to wear my jacket was very welcomed.

What a pretty picture. I am a cold weather person as well. However I really don’t like winter on the high desert (like Reno Nevada) where it’s dry and cold. Hope those coats still fit!

Dry and cold is rough on me, too. I don’t do well out west whether it’s hot or cold. But then, mosquitoes and hayfever don’t bother me there… Take the bad with the good.

Been cold here too, but I been warm so far.
I covered the plants on the back porch this evening. If I do, it will be 37, if I don’t, it will be 27 and they will all die and it will be my fault for believing the weather guy or girl.
    And, it’s Friday….have a great weekend, Y’all.

I love black-capped chickadees! I hope you had the weather you enjoy.

About 10 years ago, we had over a foot of heavy wet snow that brought limbs and tress down all over the state. We lost power for 10 days.

LOL, Joey. I am wearing long sleeves, a sweater and a warm fall jacket as soon as the highs are in the low 50’s. I wish I had your body heat during winter or that my lingering hot flashes would show up when I needed them most. Still..born and bred northerner and I kind of like it that way.

I used to like cold weather more when I was younger and dreamed of living in Alaska. Now, I don’t like extremes, including the long hot Carolina summer which is finally over. When it snows here, even a few flakes, everything closes.

We had one day like that here, Joey. My eyes watered too and gosh darn it I wasn’t dressed warm enough either. This time of year is tricky. I find either I’ve put too many clothes on or not enough. Also ….. WP unfollowed you by me. COME ON! So, like a good and loyal citizen of Joey Land, I refollowed. Happy Monday!!

It was cold here on Halloween night with gusts of winds and temps in the 20s. I realize I’m telling you something of no relevance but I just found this post in my reader so I thought I’d say something. Relevance is overrated, don’t you think? Happy Tuesday, joey!

We had the first frost, but no snow so far. Those crazy drops in temps though!! We are traveling to a soccer tournament this weekend where the lows will be in the 20’s and the highs in the mid-40s. I WILL be packing all the cold weather gear and toting quilts out along with my chair. Especially since one game is after sunset and I know how that feels. lol.

Woooo weeeee, now THAT is a chilly Halloween! Think we had one down in the 40s about five years or so but they’ve been relatively warm ever since. Now that I get to sit in my warm comfy house handing out candy I’d be okay with the chill showing up. 🙂
