I Believe in Christmas Eve

Can you believe my girls are at swim practice on Christmas Eve morning? Can you believe The Mister’s at work? Can you believe I’m home? I am!

I’ve been home a lot for four days and often by myself. Well, with pets.

I’ve had naps, too.

I read blogs this morning and I had time to enjoy music within blogs and now I’m listening to ELO “All over the wooooo-ooooo-rrrld everybody got the word” and I feel positively giddy! In a few minutes, I’ve got to go collect the babies and then I will return with the happenings.

I forgot I told them we’d get coffee after, and I had taken the dog so she got a pup cup, too. We are all done. The girls and I are all done, nowhere to go until Boxing Day. What a rare and special time. I can barely believe this is happening.

The weather is also unusual. There’s still snow on the ground and in the branches here and there, but it’s sweater weather. High today is 11C/51F and tomorrow? Christmas? Nearer to 15C/60F! Can you believe that? While I prefer a white Christmas, honestly, this sunshine is amazing. The skies are blue as blue can be.

Can you believe that sky?

I tell you another unbelievable thing — all the cards were sent and all the presents are wrapped.

The agenda is BAKING! Baking, baking, baking! Yay! Lots and lots of iced sugar cookies and thumbprint cookies because those are my favorites, Snickerdoodles for The Mister, and then a few batches of things with chocolate, because people do like chocolate. That, I’m sure you can believe.

Moo has begun to build her gingerbread house. The holiday is on! Now, if they’d just send my husband home…

Happy Merry Everything to you all!

I hope you get the Mister earlier than planned – then enjoy it all until Thursday (and try to enjoy Thursday). Merry Christmas!

Wife sits in her living room, TV on mute, listening to (singing with) Christmas music on my JBL speaker thingy playing the Pandora station, which I can hear.
I’m here reading your blog and listening to the music. “Happy Holidays” and all the great songs are indeed uplifting to this human, as is your post.
I saw your like on today’s post, “Wow, she’s all caught up.”
Swim practice? Oh, yes. I remember. One never knows when that 100th of a second may win. 🙂
Heading to Julie’s tomorrow. Merry Christmas, y’all.

  8. Sounds like you’re having a great holiday. I’m baking tonight and tomorrow. Old What’s Her Face has to work Christmas day, but we get to go over to our son’s place tomorrow night. While yeasty things are rising, and finished products are cooling, maybe I’ll read a book.

  9. I used to have one of those jobs where I had the week off between Christmas and New Year. It was luxurious! Now, it’s just Christmas day, and the company acts like Scrooge, wanting to know if we expect the whole day off. Oh well.

Enjoy, and happy holidays! Have a few cookies for me.

I wasn’t in the office yesterday, as I arranged that in July. The other support staff also chose days they’ll take off in the next week. Apparently one of the bosses was fussing over that yesterday as well as wanting staff in to open today!
I’ve eaten your share of apricot thumbprints already 🙂

The weather has been truly amazing I just returned from my son’s house. The girls were all in a hurry to go to some mall “Hi Grandpa ( hugs and kisses) Merry Christmas Grandpa. Love you, thanks for the check Grandpa. Bye Grandpa!” The boys were happy to show me some house building thing they play on an electronic tablet of some sort. Don’t get it but they sure enjoy it and I love watching them play Merry Christmas to you and the family I hope it is all good

  13. Merry Christmas, Joey. I’m looking forward to going to my daughter’s house in this very, very nice weather (in the high 40s F here). It’s so much better than slipping and sliding to her door with a bunch of [breakable] gifts!

Warm and blue here, too. And sunny! I love a white Christmas, but it’s a whole lot less stressful when you don’t have to watch out for black ice on the highway, amIright?

Joey, happy belated Christmas to you and the family. Happy almost New Year! Your relaxing days sound fabulous, as do the cookies. I used to make a lemon thumbprint cookie that was soooo good and I’ve had a craving for them and date bars for weeks. Maybe next year, I’ll get back to my baking ways.

  25. Reading this late (what else is new?) and so can relate. My favorite days in all the world are when I stay in pj’s and we do NOTHING… baking is good though, and I don’t do it anymore. I’m with Mister on Snickerdoodles but have never made them — I should find a good recipe! xo

I have had a lot of trouble with recipes for Snickerdoodles. After many years of trying new ones, I ended up with a sort of mishmash of a few different recipes — lemon juice instead of cream of tartar, and eggs at room temperature seem to yield the best results from my kitchen.
