Thursday evening, the sick moved into my chest which put me at the height of my panic. Burning cough burned. Tightness right at my breastbone. I took a bath, put on clean pajamas, and made a list of my current medications, just in case. I put on vaporub … (It was not like this, as I do not have to ask The Mister if he wants to get with this!)
I slept through more than twelve hours. I woke up, hacked and coughed until gross things happened, and since then, have been feeling better. Whatever it is, cold, flu, plague – it is BAD – I’ve not been down this long in my adult life. (I can tell Moo has grown, okay?!) It’s never taken me this long to recover after surgery, let alone illness, and I am kickin it! Now I feel like I have a cold. How I feel right now feels like a cold.
My anxiety is still heightened, but it’s no longer at AAAAAAAAAAH! level. About myself anyway.
I reapplied vaporub last night and slept eleven hours. After six days in bed with cats and quilts and tea, I’ve reentered the living room (where I will enjoy cats and quilt and tea) but first, I’m having coffee. The Mister’s coffee is really, really good today. This elixir is surely necessary to my full recovery.
I believe those of you who extended kind comments, sympathy, well wishes, and prayers do that elsewhere as well, making the world a better place. I appreciate that. For all we cannot fix, we can offer the best of ourselves.
Yuck. I’m so sorry you’ve been having a bad time and I hope you get well soon. Yay for sleep and coffee and cats!

Sounds terrible. I am glad you are feeling better. Sleep is excellent medicine almost as good as chicken soup. Hope you heal up all the way soon.

Thanks! I had been sleeping a lot, but more in naps. I guess the solid sleep did its best to heal me 🙂

I half-closed my eyes and thank you for sparing the details of the grossness. I’m so happy to hear that grossness led to a wee feeling better, though. Continued bettering is hoped for you from me! (Obviously, I’ve lost command of the English language. Sorry about that.)

I felt like the gross was a necessary detail, like a catharsis. I will continue bettering, I just know it! 🙂 Thanks!

Poor Joey! Healing thoughts coming your way. Thanks for sparing us an actual picture of the grossness, although my imagination might make it worse than it was 🙂

Glad you’re better – sounds pretty horrid, but being able to sleep means you were getting air – and that’s the critical thing all along.

I kid you not, before I even opened my eyes yesterday, I could feel how much better I was breathing 🙂 Never had anything linger like this.

So glad you’re over the worst of it. I’m hoping we don’t get a cold while this is going on…. I’d be a wreck. Nice that you had such sweet feline company while you were down and out though. I’ve been told purring aids in recuperation. Of course that was by a cat who wanted tuna… but still. It can’t hurt.

I was a wreck, I’m sure you noticed. I’d tell you to wash your hands a lot, but I know you already do, like me — even before the plague, big hand washers you and me. Lotta good that did me, but whatever!

Oh, the kitties. Who is the black and white one with the lovely smile on his face? Joey–that’s a whole lotta hours to sleep. But that’s so good–body is saying you are unwell and need to rest. Brain says we know that. Bath and clean jammies sounds so good. I keep a list of my meds (2 rx’s but who remembers the dosage??) and husband’s cause you never know….So good to hear from you. Take care. You and The Mister and Vaporub…so made me laugh.

That’s Cletus 🙂 We adopted him as a playmate for the dog but also because Sassy loooooooved him, AND NOW HE’S MY HUSBAND’S CAT! LOL
I put that list in my phone so I’ll always have it. I didn’t put the dosage in! I will add that!
Thanks, Lois!

Hard to “like” this one, Joey. So sad to hear how ill you’ve been. I’m glad you feel a little better and have returned to the land of the living ‘room’. Hope you continue to mend more and more each day. Sounds like you’re already taking care, but I’ll say it anyway… Take care Joey. Sending you love and all the good vibes and stuff! ❤

I’m pleased and relieved to read that you’re doing better now. I was concerned but figured you had it under control. And, yes, yes. Offer your best self. Such a great way to think about how to be a person right now. Keep getting better, ok?

I will get better! This thing kept me down for so long, I think by Thursday or Friday I would have been worried without the pandemic. I’ve just never been down like that. (Course, I coulda seen a dr if things were normal…) Thanks!

Sometimes sleep is the best medicine. I got something Christmas night (flu, cold, plague) and coughed for six weeks. Even though I’m old, I’m in pretty good health and I took it really easy. Still six weeks. Yup it’s bad. I hope you start to feel better really soon.

SIX WEEKS!? Did you see a dr? If it wasn’t for the plague I’d have seen the dr Thursday or Friday. It’s a bad sick!

Glad you’re doing much better, Joey. I imagine that was a bit scary with all the virus information going around (more information than virus, thankfully). We just got to our new rental house Friday afternoon and then the moving van with all the STUFF arrives tomorrow morning, so I haven’t really been able to follow what’s going on with blogging friends. Hopefully no one else there gets the creeping crud!

I wish there was a “dammit I hope you get all the way better” button to check, but all I got is ‘like’ – meh. It’s just not enough. I laughed that “I can tell Moo has grown” and then I felt good knowing you still had a sense of humor.
I do hope you’re seriously on the mend and I do keep good thoughts and include you in prayers. And, of course it’s “Joey, the Mister and all the little Joeys” ‘cuz inclusive.
