Day Whatever of Whatever

Everything seems to start that way.

Day THIRTEEN, I am still not well. I continue to recover. Notable improvement continues. My head is heavy, I ache, I get winded easily, and I am tired. I had a few better days this week, followed by a substantially worse day, then back to feeling better again.

You maybe don’t know me or don’t read me for seven years, but I get sick often. I also bounce back quickly, so this sick is absurd.

I spent most of the week in bed, continuing to tea and sleep. I’ve worked from home hours each day this week. Typing, phoning, clicking. I can’t work a whole day. Yet. Certainly couldn’t go to work today. Would need a nap before I got to my shoes.

Indiana’s governor has determined our workplace is essential. While my boss has graciously permitted us to work from home, I was too sick to work at all the first week, and managed about 20 hours this week — the other 20 was napping. I’m limited by what I can access from home. It would be much easier to work AT work. Not to mention my office chair is suitable for long days, whereas sitting hours in my home chair is a suitable punishment for anyone over the age of forty. At home, I don’t have to wear a bra or shoes, my hair can be boingy wild, and the phone doesn’t much ring. However, at work, I have everything I need to do all duties of my job. Working at home is frustrating.

I’m not inclined to discuss the health details of those I work with, but I’ll just write that it’s not good. Our office hasn’t been open during the bulk of our operating hours, because staff is not well enough to maintain it. Some of our staff have been to hospital where they were admitted and treated, presumptive, but not tested, or tested with pending results. That is how I know all the numbers everywhere are lies. Minimums. To one colleague who called the hotline, I said, “I should have called, too,” to which she replied, “They would’ve quaratined you and told you to fuck off and die at home,” and I said, “Oh mmhm.”

My doctor’s office told me to stay home until I am three days symptom free.

Operating under the presumption that we are plagued humans in a contaminated office, can any more harm be done? Only if our presumptions are wrong. See how it’s impossible to make informed decisions as there is no actual information? These are real problems.

The other people in my house are still fine, despite them climbing into my lap, sharing my bed, or my having lavished cootie kisses upon them. I am so glad and not jealous of them at all.

I will now share the highlights of my week:

The Mister brought me tulips.

The sun came out.

The daffodils are blooming.

We went outside and sat.

It was nice. Five stars, would recommend. If the sun ever shines again, I will do this again.

  1. Glad to hear you seem to be on the mend. Yikes it could have been ‘that virus which cannot be named, ‘ like Harry Potter said about Voldemort. Ooops, I said Voldemort, now I am cursed. It sound like you whole office could have had it too. I just got through ordered groceries from 2 stores that can’t deliver until Thursday but I do have some food left in the house. We are trying to avoid going to the store.

Grocery delivery and pickup hasn’t gone well for us. Every time I log in, shop, and move to pay, I am met with no times available. At all, over and over, nothing available. I’m glad you’re having better luck because Thursday, while far, is an actual day 🙂
I do think it’s the virus for me and my entire office. I won’t speak its name either, so yeah, like Voldemort. Without confirmation of that, it’s hard to make decisions.

      • I know what you mean about groceries. I did have a cancellation after I ordered once. But I am getting used to it and it is a bit stressful I could get the whole order done and then no times available too. And you don’t know if you will get what you ordered. One store was pretty good so far. I just ordered today with another store because I feel like I need some stuff before Thursday. They have a curbside pick up when they load the stuff in your trunk. My daughter is going to do it for us. But they tell you they might not have everything so we will see what we end up with. I hope you could at least get this antibody test that is being talked about now. They are going to have to tell people when they are ok to go out again.

Oh dear. I’m so sorry. We got some hopeful news out here in California – Stanford University has developed a Corvid test that is cheaper and faster and more reliable. Course, they could have used a heads up months ago. Hope you feel better soon.

Does your doctor know that you have not been symptom-free for 13 days? Joey, this is pretty darn scary. I would think a test should be in order. I think all the numbers are lies. There is talk about Florida’s numbers not being accurate. Who knows what to believe now, anyway…Take care. Get well. Get tested….if you can.

I’m glad to hear that you seem to be getting better. I wish that was a more positive statement. I’m frustrated on your behalf for not knowing and probably not being able to know. Three cheers for naps, tea, The Mister and the others around you. I can’t wait to read your “looking back on that crap” post – soon.

Keeping you in our thoughts – take care.

I had no doubt the numbers were lies. Such bs that we can’t truly assess the magnitude of this thing.

  14. That really sucks that you’re still sick. But I’m glad you are getting some sun and flowers and that both will be in increasing supply in the coming weeks. Also very happy to hear the family is so far sickness free. May it continue thus. Take care of yourself.

Oh, Joey! I’m so sorry you’re so sick! I’m glad you are getting better. I wish I wouldn’t have been able to keep up with your blog. I’m way behind on lots, and I’m well. Nothing changed in our house with the Covid. Shopping got scarier but other than that, nada! Glad your family is okay. I agree the numbers don’t reflect the actual. Pretty flowers and feet! Hoping for sun for all of us. I’m tired of winter!

  17. Ahh, Joey, I’m so sorry it doesn’t leave you alone! You will crawl out of this and emerge as Super Joey – no, you’re that yet, you’ll be Uber Mega Joey! And you’re right, nobody knows anything anyway, and those who do are not telling. I stopped reading the news and following numbers a while ago. The question is what we do with our new normal. I’m glad you’ve got plenty of support hands and paws. All well!

Thanks, Judy. There’s always a silver lining. In this case, I am glad I’m the sick one. Yes, I get jealous, but I’d be beside myself with worry if I were the well one. Hopefully they’re all asymptomatic or immune. I can’t imagine how they’d be well otherwise.

I think we all know that the numbers of infected are grossly under-reported. That’s what makes this scary and the global recovery from this will have a very long tail.

Glad to hear that your peeps are still all feeling well. They should all be self-isolating with you until you are symptom free. I hope you start to bounce back faster with each passing day. I’m sure the lovely flowers help 🌷

Joey!! Good for you for coming right out and saying the numbers are a lie. Yeah, I know. NOTHING adds up. As a world we are becoming paranoid over germs for no good reason. You are also correct that there is NO information, FACTUAL that is. All is a fabrication, deliberately so.

You are living proof that your family is still alive even if you have the cooties. Oh my goodness! How did we get so afraid? I’ll tell you true! Look in the direction of the news and media. That ought to tell ya!

Hang in there! The best place to be when not feeling good is home. Thank YOU for using your brains and common sense and not calling the hotline. What a nightmare that could have become.

I am going about my business as usual except I have very dark roots in my hair. Grrrrrr ….. Who knows when I’ll be able to get my hair done again? Until then, all who see me now know I’m not a natural blonde. LOL Oh well! There are worse things in life, I suppose.

Well, I can’t say I haven’t been alarmed for good reason. I had trouble breathing for two days and really did think I might have to go to the hospital in the night. My colleagues have been to the hospital for treatment and were admitted for fluids, oxygen, were given inhalers. They’re not okay. People are dying right here in my community. I’ve been sick and mostly in my bed for two weeks. It’s a big deal.

Didn’t mean to make light of your situation, Joey. I honestly just have trouble believing the extent the news goes to. I know people are getting sick and that is why we are on lockdown. I have my own horror stories to tell regarding this situation. Yet I thank goodness I am healthy. The way you wrote your post had me confused as if you too don’t believe everything the news is telling us. I apologize if I offended you.

I’m not offended at all. I’m saying more of us are infected than is indicated, because the testing is poor. And these are germs to be afraid of unless one is lucky enough to be asymptomatic. I have never been this sick in my adult life.

I honestly misunderstood what you said. I am also so sorry to hear about how unwell you have been. I’ve been very careful and following protocols. I don’t think the tests are accurate … that I agree with you. This thing is “too new” to be able to have anything to properly test for it. Take good care of yourself, Joey.

Your like thingy is missing. That is a drag that your sickness is still hanging around. I am afraid the current plague will be around until it goes away on its own. I acknowledge that I am a risk of 15 on a scale of 10 so I am staying inside. I get our groceries delivered and fortunately I stocked up on adult beveage before I put myself on house arrest. However I will probably need to get some stuff next week and I already found a way to get that delivered too. I hope you get better really soon, Staying inside sucks when you are well I can’t imagine what it ould be like if you are sick. Love your tulips.

Government tallies should normally be factored by 3, in this case probably more. Sorry that your office is “essential” and that the benefits you listed for working from home don’t outweigh the negatives. Mostly, sorry you’re still illin’. Go away, GERMS! Happy for your positive moments — all good ones there. Here in Pennsyltucky, we’re still starring in Hunkered: Week 4 (four to go). Now, though, I have a snazzy paisley cloth mask sewn by a nice neighbor person (not that I’m going anywhere — I’ve found everything but romaine lettuce delivery. If I find that, I may never leave my house again).

    Be gone, plague!

I heard that, like for every one is three and for every 30 is 90…
Yeah, I’m actually going to go into the office tomorrow and work midday. That’s my plan. I told my boss I may not be able to make it through a whole day and she asked 10-3. I hope I can manage it. I do not see us as essential, but without someone there to do the there things, it’s going to be hell going back. The longer, the worse it will be.
That’s nice you got a pretty mask 🙂 I’ll be scarfing it, but as I expect to see no one, I reckon it will stay on my neck.
We did eat our romaine all up. I think we’re down to cabbage and kale. Trying to get delivery or pick up groceries here IS NOT GOOD. Our supplies dwindle.

Good luck with the office-ing. Sorry the romaine is gone. I get some fresh salad with my Martha & Marley Spoon meals sometimes (two meals a week and poof! I’m a cook!). Hopefully, it won’t be too much longer before we can salad shop freely!

I hate you’re still feeling so poorly. They only test for COVID in my town if you’ve been directly exposed, so most people get turned away, despite being so sick. And the ones who do get the test take 7-10 days to hear back! It’s craziness.

I’m sorry to hear that you are still not feeling well, Joey! Your tulips are gorgeous and sunshine is glorious. I hope those were able to exponentially brighten your day even while feeling poorly. It’s so good that nobody else in your family has gotten sick. A few weeks ago, I had what I thought was allergies, but I think it was really a cold. Everyone else in my family seems to be healthy and for that I am thankful.
