This is one of the many horse barns at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. I chose to snap this particular barn door because it’s much more well-worn than the others. I am a big fan of weathered, painted wood. Look at that overhang. Plus, I think the ferns add that certain somethin familiar and authentic to the photo.
To make it any more real, you’d hafta smell it and get your own splinters. Out of all the horse barn doors at the state fair, this door is, I’m sure, the one y’all wanted to see.
Barn doors have been making their way into interior design for some time now, but this one is the real deal. Notice the tracks that allow it to slide to the left, lock in, and then within its center, a door for people.
The plaque is about Sep Palin.
You can read more about him here. He’s kind of a big deal, I’ve learned. Here’s a photo of him in all his splendor.

I love barn doors. I made the exterior door to my workshop using sliding barn door hardware. There’s just something special about them, and the older, weathered painted ones are wonderful to look at. I can imagine the smell, but you’re right, it’s necessary for the full experience.

Horse barn doors – they don’t get any better than that in my book. These are great ones plus I can smell that fried fair food. 🙂

Great choice! I just love barn doors; the more worn and weathered the better. Thanks for joining us this week 🙂

I’m SO glad you chose this fir your post. I neglected to tell you that harness racing was my favorite part of going to the county fair. That and the weight pulling. The horses are so beautiful. I agree – weather wirn wood can’t be beat for aesthetic beauty. Thanks so much. I will read your link 😀

Didn’t they do a big expansion of the fairgrounds in the last decade?

I don’t think so. It’s the same as it was before we were in Georgia, apart from certain new buildings, like the DNR and a few others. More like renovation than expansion. You still can’t get lost on the loop 😉

I do like interesting doors and this is one of them. There are doors on Pinterest, too. Yours belongs over there, too! Thank you for reminding me about the smells. How could it be a horse barn in there without those?!
