Yes, I did post about needlepoint yesterday, but that was not planned. I’d say it’s happenstance, but I don’t believe in that, so I’ll say it’s reinforcement of the item I selected for my Cherished Blogfest post.
If you follow me here or on Instagram, you’ve probably seen this picture in the background. My dad did this. He does amazing needlepoint work. I have plenty of photos of his work, even the ones I don’t own, and I occasionally drop one on Instagram.
They are all over my house. I love them all but this one is my fave.
I wanted this one when he did it, and I was only nine.
Y’ever have that feeling? Like something is for you? It just speaks to you? This is one of mine.
I suppose when I was nine I already loved cats, stained glass, plants, antiques, wooden floors, and quilts. Was I? Or did this scene mold my aesthetics? I don’t remember how old I was when he gave it to me, but I was an adult with a family. I felt like, FINALLY! If I’m not staring out my window, I’m staring at this picture.
It’s generally laden with cat hair, not that anyone but me ever notices. Cletus the Dog Kitten likes to bat at and chew on the plants, he does.
For you good people, I’ve tried to clear away evidence of that, but if you’re a pet owner, then you know.
The Mister suggested I take my Dyson to it, which sounded a bit murderous extreme…
Isn’t that texture sublime?
Thanks for looking. If you enjoyed this, you can find more posts at the Cherished Blogfest page.
That is an astounding piece of artwork. Holy cat! I can’t imagine you NOT wanting that. Just wow.
Can he do one for me? 🙂 (with a dog instead of a cat) LOL If there’s a line of people asking, remember who was here first!!!

It’s a lovely piece, but I’m even more amazed that your dad did it. I think that makes it a 100 times more special. Is that sexist for me to say that? I hope not … it’s admiration for his dexterity and attention to detail.

I don’t know that it’s sexist, but it does seem to surprise people. He does those intense cross-stitch pieces with thousands upon thousands, so yes, I think his attention to detail is perfect.
He cooks and quilts, too.

This is crewel embroidery, right? I used to do this and really loved it. I love the fact that your dad did this, though. No wonder you wanted it–I would, too! So happy you finally have it. Did you say cat hair? Yes, murderous was the correct word….

I love the leaves of the plant on the right the most, next to the quilt and the cat, of course. It’s a lovely creation. And I concur that you are three years younger than me.

Wow – that is a seriously beautiful piece of needlework. The close-ups reveal a wonderful talent and a gifted eye. I love the fine work in the stained glass window. I also really like the feeling of depth he created with the thread and with the shadow lines. I can see why you wanted this. Thanks for including this in the blogfest!

Since I’m pretty bad with anything involving needle work, I admire anyone who does this kind of work. Bravo!

That is sublime. I also have a cat like that, and I can’t have plants in my home, as she tries to eat them, and knocks them on the floor. I hate trying to clean up all that dirt.

This kitten is the first to chew plants, so I understand your frustration. I don’t have as many plants as I used to, because as it turns our, many of my plants were tasty. 😛

I had one plant, which turned into two, after the one landed upside down on the floor. When they both hit the floor, I gave up on plants. Maybe a cactus . . . ?

Maybe. I have one and he doesn’t go near it. Ever. 🙂
