Replays

This waking at five on the regular thing is still not pleasant, but I now wake minutes before five. Yesterday, perhaps due to time change, I awoke minutes before four. Fortunately, yesterday was not a five o’clock morning, and I relished the fact that I could sleep another three hours. I think tomorrow is a seven day as well.

The important part is I’m sleepin again.

It’s entirely possible that you’ve heard of The Bob and Tom Show as I do believe they’re syndicated. If not, I’m telling you, Bob and Tom are morning radio hosts on the local classic rock station, Q95. Bob and Tom have been on the radio since I was small. Seriously, these guys may live long as the sycamores. One of them, the dark-haired guy, lives right around here. I don’t know that I’d even recognize the other.
I don’t listen to Bob and Tom. I don’t listen to any morning radio. It’s my blog and I’ll ramble if I want to, but I am coming to a point.

The thing about Bob and Tom is that even when you listen to Q95 the rest of the day, when they’re not Bob and Tomming, there’s replay. “Bob and Tom in the morning and highlights replayed all night long” or somethin like that. Over the years, there have been some hysterical bits, and Q95 makes sure we never miss them, so the replay thing is workin.

My brain does this. Replays all night long. And honestly, I don’t need the promo.

I could go lie down, in the daylight, and read, watch a show, or scroll my phone, and my brain wouldn’t bother with replays. Even if I couldn’t sleep, I could enjoy a rest.

After the sun sets, I can’t do that. I have to work for it. Measure my breaths, count my blessings, play any number of mindfulness games until sleep finally comes.
Silence Falls.
Twilight Appears.
“DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE GUY WE TALKED TO AT THE PARKING METER!”
What? Brain, no.
Breathing Slows.
Fade To Black.
“REMEMBER WHEN WE COULDN’T FIND OUR SHOES?”
What the hell is in the darkness?!? Is that the only time the movie screen is available for replays?!?

I realize not everyone experiences this, but I fersure know I’m not alone. Initially I wondered if it was an introvert thing. I know I must process all the interaction, all the stimulation, and wind down before I can sleep. If I don’t have enough time, then I suppose it could take all night?
But there are plenty of good-sleepin introverts…
Do they have black screens at night?!? Are their films silent?!?

This thing where it’s late and people are tired and they fall into bed and sleep? Yeah, that only happens to me when I’m sick. I’m really good at going and going.

I am SO glad you are sleeping again. I also hope you find that damn off switch. Being on all the time is such a drag. It isn’t nearly as cool as “All that Jazz”.

I do the replays ALL THE TIME, so it doesn’t bug me at night. I just replay ’em until I get bored and go to sleep on myself. YMMV

Oh my gosh, Joey–my best thinking is at night. All the things I forgot to do at work today. All the things I need to do at work tomorrow. Right there in the dark, reminding me to think of that and not fall asleep. Aggravating, isn’t it?? Lemme know when you find that off switch.

You are definitely not alone in this. I usually fall asleep fine, but I wake up in the middle of the night or very early hour and start thinking and replaying everything. Sometimes I’m tired enough that I can fall back asleep within fifteen minutes. Other times, no way. At that point I grab my book and read until my mind quiet downs. Then I usually drift right off. I’ve learned not to fight it, because I never win.

I’m glad that you’re sleeping better. I’m up around 5:30 a.m. every day, but often am awake around 3:00 a.m. in the middle of the night. I like being awake in the middle of the night, everything is so still and relaxed. I feel most centered then. However, if you want a full night’s sleep then I say have it, darling. Happy snoozing.

Thank you! There’s something to be said for falling asleep and then waking up, all in one shot. It almost never happens to me and when it does, I feel SO GOOD.

Glad you are sleeping better. I am up a few times in the middle of the night to use the bathroom but that’s because I drink a lot of tea in the evening. I can usually fall right back to sleep. On those RARE occasions when something is bothering me, I’ll read. That will do it. Happy Tuesday.

Glad you’re sleeping better. I think things replay when the lights go out becuse the brain goes into nightly-maintenance mode. What I do is play solitaire and let all that happens first before I go to bed. The solitaire is mindless enough that it gives the brain time to get all that stuff done.

If I fall asleep quickly and stay asleep, I’m good. But otherwise it’s replay city for freaken hours.

  9. I’m glad to hear you are sleeping again!
I’m not a good-sleeping introvert. The brain likes to think and the hubby sleeps as soon as his head hits the pillow. Then there’s the snoring and the brain to contend with…but eventually I fall asleep. Then I have the 2 or 3 am wake-up and the brain wants to talk again. If I attempt to use the bathroom, then all is lost because then the brain won’t be ignored. Eventually I fall asleep until the hubby’s alarm at 6ish… then I drift in and out of wakefulness and sleepy time until the birds begin singing the wake-up call on my phone at 7.
All my life I didn’t even know it was possible to fall asleep in 5 seconds flat!

You may have it worse than me. I’ve got my earplugs and I seldom wake to potty. I wonder if birds would wake me from my phone… might try that on a weekend, see if it works.
I would LOVE to be one of those people who can sleep instantly! My mister can do that and it makes me soooo jealous!
Good luck to us both, hm?

Maybe it’s introverts, but I fall asleep during movies, so the replays don’t bother me. I used to try and replay the things I thought I would have handled differently, but…sleep. Sleep always wins for me. I’m sorry to say, because it alludes you, and because you might be offended, but I fell asleep trying to comment on this last night 😦

The good news I, your post kept me awake. My own words…meh

Wish I could give you some of my instant asleep. Sometimes I want to think of things, but go to sleep before I have time to. I’m even asleep and dreaming short little dreams even before adjusting the covers and pillow. Hope these early mornings don’t last too much longer for you, and you can enjoy a few more hours of sleep. 🙂

Ha! I wish I had that, falling asleep before even adjusting pillows!
I think the 5 o’clock is most weekdays til spring. Obviously my child is worth it, but oy nonetheless! Thanks! 🙂

  14. I’m such an introvert that I live in the middle of nothing, talk to nobody, and still am happy. Thanks to amore, bestia and internet, of course. But hey, I got to talk to the postwoman the other day and we made Facebook friends! The first local I know by name in 5 years. That said, I can fall asleep every night just as you say – lie down and sleep. Amore is even better at it. He can fall asleep mid-sentence. At first I thought it was a sign of clear conscience but now I think it’s a psycho thing. 😀 And I – I have no interactions to ponder. Would you prefer that? 🙂
