When the weekend is all stretched out in front of you…
This Friday is brought to you by two regular coffees, one decaf coffee, and a 32oz Co-Cola, cause sleep was an unfulfilled desire last night cause fuck it, let’s lie there and think about deadlines and how we’re goin in early and fall asleep in twitchy mode. Then let’s wake coughing, thank you, Post-Nasal Drip, have you seen the Flonase? But then I saw a text about how I didn’t have to go in early after all, and I thought well that’s a nice perk to waking at 1am and so I turned off my unusually early alarm and drifted off quite nicely because some of us really do need structure and variation is agitation. Then a Charley horse attacked me and I woke up yelping, swearing, writhing, helpless to stave off the pain. Thank you, Stress, I hadn’t known how to cope on my own. (If it happens again, yes, I will put a bar of soap in my sheets.)
Work was luffly. I need to write to y’all about my work, but I haven’t yet, cause work and I are still in the early stages where I walk around blushing and pinching myself, and I wanna keep it to myself a lil longer, smiling all the time, humming, scribbling my salary on pretty stationery…
Got to run some errands at work, too. I always like that, but I like it even more in my new car. I need to write to y’all about my new car, but I haven’t yet, cause time. Enjoyed picking up yummy lunch — shrimp with white rice and ginger carrots and snow peas. Mmm, mmm, mmm.
My handsome, helpful husband went to the store today after work, so that’s one less thing for me to do this weekend.
Alas, the caffeine is not sleep. How old am I? Old enough that it’s Friday night and I’m excited to sleep! Not now, but like, later, at the dark time. I have things to do before the sleeping, as one does.
I just read an article about how being in your forties is all about doing more of what pleases you, and I thought, well I’m doin a super duper good job at bein in my forties.
Happy Friday, Everyone!
Looking forward to the new car, new job info, as I’m sure you’ll share when you’re ready. Sometimes I wish I had the life of a cat, sleeping whenever, wherever and being friendly to only those I feel like being friendly to. Happiest of Fridays to you!

I throw 250 mg of Magnesium, and half of a 750 Calcium tablet down the hatch – and do some gentle range of motion circles of the joints for 5 minutes, and the twitching goes away for me. The doctor had me on Klonozepam for restless legs 5 years+ (you’re not supposed to take it longer than 90 days, as it’s a benzodiazepam). So I weaned myself and found the combination which works. For really bad cramping, 500 of Magnesium. If you have the stuff handy, and it works, you can even take it on suspicion of cramping – when you go to bed. It is all water-soluble – drink an extra glass of water. Folk remedies sometimes work.

Thanks for the tips! If I have to endure this regularly, if it’s a new thing, I will totally up my calcium and magnesium intake with a small vat of water, Alicia! Phew!
I no longer/hardly ever/I fill the scrip, but don’t take benzos for my anxiety anymore, so I’m sure not interested in taking them for Charley horses. I can stretch more before bed, too. I’m down for that. 🙂

Always the easy ideas first – many actually work. Best of luck – and it beats worrying when you wake up in the middle of the night in unbelievable pain.

Guess who’s getting some magnesium today? Thanks again x

Hope it works; it’s inexpensive and easy if it does.
You can also get enough from a proper diet (they tell me – look up online), but I think that includes the whole-grains thing, and I don’t eat carbs much.

Magnesium is high on my list of nutrients I seek to consume for anxiety — seeds, peanut butter, quinoa, oats, spinach, banana, edamame — but I’m sure I don’t get enough!

Bar of soap? I am plagued by cramps as well but one of my cardio- vascular Docs showed me some exercises that help. New car?! Great. I love new cars. It has been so long since I have smelled a new car. Will you be driving it Saturday?

No, The Mister will drive. If you’re into it, you can sniff his shiny new car instead 😉 I personally try to eradicate new car smell. lol
Old Wives Tale or whatever, about the bar of soap. People do swear by it. I’m hoping it was just stress, cause I get enough exercise and I eat a lot of bananas and fish, and I do so enjoy my sleep! 😛

I don’t blame you. Sleep is a beautiful thing. As compelling as it sounds I think I will pass on the car sniff. It is only good for the first day.

Sounds like you’re killing it these days. Someone told me about the soap when I was in New Orleans. I tried it, and they went away. May have went away without it too, but it didn’t hurt.

Yes it sounds like you’ve started the week-end just right. Hope it ends just as great!

I never do things according to Hoyle. My forties? At 43, 3 kids under 7 years old. There was no doing more of what I wanted – although late motherhood definitely has advantages. Now if we’re talking your 60’s that’s another story. Wishing you and all your critters a sleepy, dreamy weekend.

You did momming as I originally thought I would! In my 20’s, I knew I’d want to have the experience, so I thought when I was ‘really old’ like I am now, lol, I’d find a nice donor, paid or otherwise. I sometimes wonder if having them younger wouldn’t have meant more energy and earlier freedom, or if having them older wouldn’t have meant more wisdom and resources — but we all have a path 🙂
You make the 60s look grand!
Thanks!

Congrats on doing the 40’s so well, Joey!! 🙂 I wish I were curled up with a cup of tea and a book, but in less than half an hour, I have to head into work, put away all the pastries delivered from the bakery, open the registers, and make sure everything’s ready for opening at 10. 😦 I’m hourly, not salary, so no contemplating that wonderful number on any sort of paper. But that’s OK. We’re taking all my checks and socking them away for our retirement house, wherever that may end up to be, so it’s a glorious thing.
Happy weekend!!

When does work sound better than tea and a book? Almost never. lol I hope your work went by smoothly!
Ya know?
I’m hourly, too. I like it better hourly. I get a lil bitter after 45 hours on salary.
Retirement house, woot!!! I like that, cause it’s an attainable dream. You know one day it will happen, and you have all these options spread out before you, to plan and imagine. 🙂 Yes. That’s a good one!

Work went well and now it’s almost time for hockey, which is even better. 🙂 I think there may be a beer or something alcoholic in my future, too, which will be nice.
We love saving for the next/last house. Hopefully we’ll be able to pay a big part of it in cash (or maybe all?), then pay it off quickly, the better to enjoy it.

Yes, lady! Pay it down or off much as you can and spend a substantial amount of time smiling!
Until then, yes, hockey and cocktails can balance the work aspect 🙂

I go through phases of charlie horse’s in my calf, but then I also get them in the arches of my feet and sometimes the toes. I keep hearing about magnesium. I think that I get the recommended amount, but I’m still thinking about a supplement. I hope that you’ve had a wonderful weekend. I’ve read about the cars and am looking forward to hearing about the job once you’re ready to share about it. 🙂

Can’t say if it was the bar of soap in my sheets or the magnesium/calcium/zinc (I bought the tri-tablet) that stopped it — but I can say I did both Saturday and I’ve had no more. Maybe they would have stopped anyway.
I’ve had them when I should, awake — walk or dance too long, (sex lol) get Charley horses, but this in-my-sleep thing was totally new. AND WHOLLY UNPLEASANT.
