Not Why We Call Her Moo

I’ve had two underweight children. I promise I fed them more than adequately.
I may have slathered extra butter on their bread and pushed the milk, too.

That milk thing, it seems to stick.

For the longest time, keeping the boy in milk was a grocery goal.
“Can ya stop and pick up a coupla cows on your way home?”

Bubba hasn’t been underweight in over ten years. He’s taller than his father and I suppose otherwise, he’s maybe slim, but certainly not scrawny. I think his jeans are like 34W and 72L or somethin. Seems the milk went directly to his legs. He’s more into other drinks now, but still, when he comes to visit, I consider his milk consumption.

have to consider his milk consumption because Moo is highly dairy dependent.

As I put two half gallons of milk into the cart, Moo informed me, “It says limit two gallons. Technically, those two are only one gallon, so you can still buy two more.”
“Thank you Moo, but I think this one gallon of milk will see us through the weekend.”
“Ugh.”

“This milk is light. We should get more milk. Call Daddy and ask him to bring home more milk.”
“There’s another milk in there!”
“Um.”
“You drank it all up, didn’t you?”
“You see, what happened was…”

“We’re gettin low on milk!”
“What? How much is left?”
“Only one gallon!”

One day, The Mister brought home two gallons of milk and as he walked up to the door, Moo dragged her sister to the door and shouted, “Look! Look at all the milk!”

Last week, I bought three gallons of milk.
Moo performed a celebratory song and dance in the dairy aisle.

I used to be a milk-a-holic too, lol. A gallon every three days or so when I was in high school. Ma never bitched, but I did have “my milk” as opposed to “the family milk.” 😛
No wonder I cant drink it any more. Lol

That’s how we did with the boy. Bought his own gallon(s) — “Boy cows” we called them. The girls and I don’t do the hormones, but he can. It’s like his breasts don’t even get tender 😉

That’s how I was growing up. I loved me some milk. At some point, though–probably the last ten years–the milk dependency fell off. Now I’m that way about cheese. OMG we only have like ten package of shredded cheese in the fridge so we need to go to the store NOW.
Granted, the cheese packages have gotten smaller over the years, but still… when there’s a buy one get one cheese sale, GTF outta my way.

Nope, this is one I can’t relate to at all.

As a kid, my mom despaired because I REFUSED to drink the white stuff. I literally have a gag reflex to milk and rarely have it in my fridge. Neither of my boys were big milk drinkers either. They liked a bowl of cereal in the morning, but that was it. Learned behaviour? Or in the genes? 😉

  4. Hihih. Gallons and space for them in your fridges was one of the most jaw-droppings things I saw while on my only visit to the USA. LA and SF, but still. Among others were prohibitions (Are you allowed anything at all? Are you forced to break the law all day long?), most friendly cops (because they didn’t caught us break any laws), and the fact that Europe ceases to exist. As for milk: Know your poison, stay awake, I say. 😀

A guy I worked with years ago had a son who was a football player. His milk consumption was about a gallon a day.

The three of us didn’t drink as much, but even so we were buying it by the half-gallon three or four times a week. (Mom didn’t like the gallon jugs, for some reason.)

I recently read an article about teenage swimmers and divers. I read that they need 4000 calories just to maintain a healthy growth rate. :O

Great story. I wish I was more enthusiastic about milk. All that calcium is good for the bones, but I tend to reach for water before milk. Easier to come by, I guess.

  7. I was that way as a kid. I don’t remember the last time I had a glass of milk now.

I love milk! Well, anything dairy, white, creamy, sour, sweet, it doesn’t matter. My cat loves it all too, even sour cream. I don’t give him just reg. milk, but buy the kind of milk made for cats. 🙂

I never liked plain milk – it had to have chocolate in it. I guess you could call me “Choo.”

I still like milk just not as much as I did when I was younger. I guess all passions ebb with age.

I hate plain milk, used to be forced to drink a glass a day until I was in about 4th grade or so, but I’m glad my kids love it.

Refreshing to see a family that enjoys good old plain cow milk- these days there are so many other varieties on the market, soya, rice, oat, spelt etc, etc….

My older son could never get enough milk when he was a kid. I was pregnant with two more kids and waddling up the grocery aisle holding jugs of milk. They cleared the aisles for me. Grown up now and he is lactose-intolerant. WTH??!!!

I feel for you on that waddling and whatnot. Phew.
That is kinda crazy about his lactose intolerance. I don’t know enough about it, I guess, but I know more people who outgrew it than developed it.

I use to drink milk by the gallons, then I ate vegan for several years, I’m no longer vegan, but milk hasn’t touched these lips for years. Okay, maybe a latte every now and then, I haven’t stayed away from it for any special reason other than I just lost the desire with time,

In order to get me to drink a little more milk than what goes in my coffee, the Mrs buys me chocolate milk from the dairy she shops at. It’s made from
Whole milk and cocoa. I feel like doing Moo’s happy dance when I see that.

I used to drink a lot of milk. Not these days. However, the Teen and the Garden Gnome are huge milk drinkers (or should I say Milo drinkers). Not sure if you guys get Milo over there but you can check out some ads on youtube. Anyway, they love the stuff!
And then when the grandkids come over…. yep, milk consumed by the bucket load.

I had no idea what Milo was, so I looked it up. Your Milo there is called Nesquik here — same company, too 🙂

      • suzjones says:

Nesquick is finer (The Teen also has a tin of that in the cupboard lol). A little different. Milo is a lot courser and crunchier. I have to admit that drinking Milo is one thing I miss about drinking milk. I wonder how it would go with kefir? lol

  22. I’m actually backing away from the milk…still have it on cereal now and then, but I stick to water the rest of the time. I have a sister-in-law who gets WAY too much info on the internet, and according to her it’s just one more poison I’m putting into my body. Meh…

  24. I don’t do milk. Lactose and I are not friends. But mostly, I can’t stand the taste! My kids, though, love it. And so I buy 2 gallons at a time and try to never let it get down to 1/2 of a gallon. For a teenage boy that’s probably one bowl of cereal!!
