What is your favorite holiday?
Fourth of July
What types of food is associated with your holiday?
Cook-out food: anything from the grill, corn on the cob, baked beans, cold salads, watermelon, light fruit desserts, pies
Do you travel for your holiday?
Yes, we make the journey downtown — takes about 15-20 minutes
Is it a religious or spiritual holiday?
No.
Is there a gift exchange?
No.
How long does the celebration last?
A weekend usually, or whenever our neighbors run out of fireworks
Bonus Question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?
I am grateful for family, pets, friends, our home, my job. I am fortunate. I have plenty to be thankful for on any given day. I am feeling much better, rarely coughing, and my voice is almost normal again. I am grateful for Mucinex. I am so glad I live where there’s snow on the ground and heat in the house. You know what else I’m grateful for? Hot baths, hot coffees, hot man in my bed.
This week coming up has the winter solstice, an orchestra concert, and a three-day weekend chockablock full of JOY. Five of us will happily hole-up to lavish one another with love and laughter, but more importantly, we’ll enjoy the unadulterated avoidance of the outside world.
Cee’s Share Your World is a weekly feature and all are welcome to join in and play along.
What’s going on in your world?
Thanks Joey for sharing this week. I could use the warmth of 4th right now. 😀

Halloween is my favorite. It self-answers the questions. What I like most about it is its significance as a seasonal marker. But there are also the colors, the children, the candy, the costumes, the masks, the cats and witches, and the cooling.

I will be doing my best to avoid the outside world, too. Do you think it will survive without both of us? Actually, it’s normal behavior for me. Glad to hear that you’re feeling better.

We have snow outside on the ground too. I would be happy about it if the pipes would thaw.

Oh dang. 😦 Have you lived in a place with this kinda weather before? Do you know stuff to do?

We opened the cabinet doors and tried dripping the faucet that night.
Turns out, it wasn’t our fault. There was a hole into the crawlspace right by the freeze. All the hreat tape and insulation couldn’t have stopped it with that hole that night. It’s plugged now, and the water is back. No breaks.

Yes, that is kind of a bummer about the bbq
Any good bbq holidays in Finland?

As I said to the nurse this morning, I prefer “pretend holidays” like my birthday. She thought it was funny, at least.

Thank you! I don’t know if it was funny, but we do tend to laugh at the pretty boys 😉

Loved this one! I adore the food, that’s for sure, but I’ve never cared for fireworks. That’s only gotten worse since I’ve had dogs and had to watch them suffer through the noise.

Oh sad. The fireworks are my fave

This morning it was -10 real temperature with -20 wind chill. Brrrrr! I went out and ran errands anyway, but the Fourth of July sounds so warm!! 🙂 I’m looking forward to the four of us all being together for a week and one of my s-i-l’s coming up for Christmas. By then, it’s supposed to be around 30!! Fireworks!

Bitter cold
I did my stuff too, when it was hovering around 0, don’t know about the windchill, the car doesn’t tell me that, heh. So glad I lived to tell! 😉 (Really just glad I don’t live in Georgia anymore, lol!)

My van doesn’t report wind chill, either, but it does report negatives and I was seeing those today! But I was moving around so fast, I didn’t get cold. 🙂

I am very happy about your family being private and staying together. I wasn’t able to do this very often. My family was great together for about five hours and after everyone was so happy for their time, I released them to go to movies, friends or bowling. My parents allowed us this as we grew older and I am lucky, my 3 kids chose to stay here within five to ten minutes with their children. Then, the youngest still is less than half an hour.
I am excited that for 4 years I spent Christmas with my Mom but we switched it to Thanksgiving so I could have little ones on Christmas Eve to read the special books their parents heard, Joey. ❤

Reading to grandchildren sounds absolutely perfect for Christmas Eve! I wonder if the wee ones will want to do more ‘friend’ things when they get older…The boy doesn’t, but he’s rather introvert-y. It’s good for people to get what they want for Giftmas, and I like staying in, baking, and listening to my music. ❤

I’m glad you’re finally getting better! What a great holiday. I used to love the summer so much–in Michigan! Now it’s something just to get through. But the foods and all that remind me of those summers, very special.

It is the height of summer, isn’t it? Everything in the garden flourishes in July. I’m very fond of the milder ones. This year was super steamy, kept us from the parade, but we never even attempted daytime stuff on the 4th in Georgia, so I can imagine yours

Well, we don’t get the steamy part, just the burning in hell part.

I think that you picked a pretty cool holiday. Well, cool anywhere other than this part of Texas. Here it is hot, way hot, in July. 🙂 One of David’s great-grandpas was born 4 July 1875.
I wish that you could send some of your snow down this way. It is cold here right now, but not a flake in sight.
Outside world avoidance sounds wonderful to me. Its nothing but a headache out there and a wreck waiting to happen.
Have a blessed week and a very Merry Christmas!

I could send you some snow, but for all you know, it would be a bag of tap water 😉
I’m so looking forward to the weekend!

Yes, it would be tap water by the time it hit the Texas border, I am sure. It is supposed to be in the 70s here shortly. 🙂
I hope that you have a great weekend and a very Merry Christmas!
Me, too! Turkey, turkey, turkey…and cheesecake. 🙂

With Christmas so close July 4th seems life times away. I love any excuse for a cook out. Grills loaded with ribs, hot dogs and burgers. How do your pets handle the fireworks? Our cats hide under the bed.
LikeLiked by 1 person
The cats don’t care at all about the fireworks. Maybe cause not as loud as four kids. The dog actually used to go with us to fireworks, but in 2014 she got freaked out at the finale and seemed distressed, so we crate her with a juicy bone when we go 🙂
