My Utter Dismay

I’ve been working at my job now for … near seventeen months. My job is splendid. The people I work with are wonderful and the people I work for are good, honest, and best of all, interesting — dare I say amusing? I lurves me job.

Anyway.

You know how you work alongside people for near seventeen months and you feel like you’ve got a good sense of who they are and what they’re all about?

You think you know a person.

You know your boss is a woman of action. You love how she takes charge and commands attention. She regales you with stories and inspires you with her phrasing. She’s forthright. You admire her and are grateful she hired you because every day she increases your knowledge and challenges you.

You think you know a person.

She’s a mom to humans and animals. She likes strong indents. She prefers hot chocolate to coffee. She’s got impeccable taste in shoes. She takes photos of doors in Paris.

See, you like her now, too, don’tcha?

Cause you think you know a person.

And then she tells you she’s a Patriots fan.

I give almost zero fucks about football. Except that.

And so, what can I say?

I’m sorry, but having “impeccable taste in shoes” cant even mitigate that.

LOL I’m sorry but I thought you were going to say she fired you. The husband is a Cowboy fan in 49er territory so there’s that. My sport is baseball.

If she fires me, I will tell everyone it’s because she’s a Patriots fan 😛
When we married, The Mister was a 49ers fan. He’s not now. But he doesn’t like the Cowboys, either, so… Ya win some, ya lose some.

I thought I was a C-boys fan, but got Jonesed out of it in the 80’s (#2 son claims I need to let it go). I did Seahawks for few years, but now I simply don’t care. Other than childhood and teenage friends, work folks have always been the oasis of friendship. Retired now, I am much more discriminating than I ever was. There is something to be said for being around people of like mind.

You really lured us to that punchline with a great twist. And the NFL might not be everyone cup of tea – but it impacts us all and then many of us have teams – and favs – and teams we hate.
We know of a group called “ABP” for anyone but patriots
    – and as much as I respect #12 – not a P fan

  9. Well I’m from the UK so the Patriots are an unknown quantity to me but you certainly made me smile with that tale 🙂

You had me at ‘impeccable taste in shoes’.

Since I don’t ‘do’ football, I can like her unconditionally based on your recommendation … at least until she does something unforgivable that doesn’t involve sports 😉

Oh, Joey, say it ain’t so! I’m one of those ABPs mentioned above. How could she? How COULD she? I guess everybody has one flaw, and that’s a bad one, but far from the worst. As long as she appreciates joeys, she’s okay by me.

Hah! She’s okay by me, too. I only wish I had been sitting down and wearing a poker face 🙂 Boy, I tell ya, the things that can blindside you on a Tuesday afternoon…

As a long suffering and gradually waning Raiders fan, this is unacceptable. That’s it, I am totally done with this person (I will probably never meet)…well…let’s have a look at her Paris doors first; before I make my final conclusions about her 😉

I feel your pain. I recently found out that a new friend I liked *a lot* was both a Trump supporter and a supporter of a football team I loathe. I was shocked, but mainly about the first one.

OMG. She could bring me back a door from Paris and some fromage and I still could not let this slide. The Patriots! Even the Cowboys would be better than those ball deflating video recording Patriots.

  17. Huh. That’s a big character flaw. My 2019 in sports has sucked. My baseball team is giving its last twitches before death, and football ended with Roethlisberger going down. I’m down to Boise State now, and I’m honestly not that big of a fan. We’re expected to be, living here and all, but it doesn’t rule my life. What’s left for 2019? Do they still have Bass Masters or something?

She hails from New England. I don’t know why it surprised me. Further, as I mentioned to you, Reception is from NH, so there are actually TWO of them. Wonderful women, deeply flawed, obviously, but wonderful nonetheless 😛

Sadly I’m one of those folks who *actually* gives zero (0) fucks about football. I got very into the women’s soccer this summer and sometimes I can manage enthusiasm about basketball but that’s about it. Sorry for your loss. 😆

I don’t really watch football, but since we moved to Virginia (which is my husband’s childhood state) he feels like he should be a Redskins fan. I’m like…really?! I’m glad your boss take photos of doors in Paris and has impeccable taste in shoes though. 😉
