SoCS — Why?

Why am I up so early? Am mom. Was up before the sun. Have already been out. Have coffee, will travel. It’s chilly and the wind is whippin! Why haven’t I been able to get in bed at a decent hour for the last five nights? Am mom. Have been up to collect child, 10:30-11:45pm all week. Am proud mom, quite pleased, but as all parents, AM TIRED. Kid is tired, too. Kid is runnin on fumes. Took the kid to the first thing, then we’ll drive to the second thing, then we’ll come home, then we’ll pick the kid up from another thing. THEN WE WILL ALL EAT LINNER AND HAVE A REST. Cause guess what? There’s another thing this evening! I hope you have a day of happy things, too, but maybe don’t run yourself ragged. And if you do, smooth out on Sunday like me, okay?

That answers a lot of hard questions. I hope you get a day of rest. I think youโ€™re entitled.

  3. I remember those days! Not really that long ago, but definitely even more exhausting than normal toward the end of school. Somehow or other, the childless people who dream these things up cooperate with each other, and claim their time slots early, so that when the play goes to its final performance, and the Boy Scouts run out of Eagles, the dance competitions pick up the slack, and the Mock Trial practice sessions compete with Science Fair for Saturday.

Sneak in rest instead of TV – and you MIGHT survive.

      • That is insane! If these men and women did not love their job their lives must be absolutely miserable! Everyone is being pushed so hard today, Joey. Those hours that you just mentioned are nuts! And yes please do have a good chill day tomorrow! I’ve begun today… ๐Ÿ˜˜

Good for you! Yes, the staff is dedicated. It’s not all the time, not all year, but in spurts. Several of them have years on me, too. They’re amazing!

I remember those days. Frustrating and fun at the same time. Try to enjoy them now, because when the empty nest days arrive, you’ll look back and wonder ‘why’ and how the years passed so fast. .. Happy hectic Saturday, and here’s to a relaxing Sunday. ๐Ÿ™‚

Haha! They pass by so fast because it’s one thing after another! It’s that time fleeting thing! Whoosh! We had a great time this morning and we’ll have another great time tonight — but ooh the rests in between will be heavenly. I imagine an empty nest truly feels too still at times. Sometimes it’s like that for mere hours and it feels weird.

  9. Ha. I remember from when my kids were home. I once told one of my co-workers, “You know, you really don’t need as much sleep as the studies say you do.” At least saying it made me feel better as I ran around on fumes. Try to get some rest when you can, Joey.

Haha! Yes, when I get 7-8 hours of sleep I feel like I’m doing great. Those nights we hit the hay early and I get 9? I could stop a speeding train, yeah? Anything beats the early years. Phew! How do we all do that, generation after generation?!?

So glad to be done with “the things.” Miss the kids though so it is a treat when we do some “things” together again. Littlest one (21) and her boyfriend are coming over today and we’re going to the Giants game so we have a thing. ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. As we’ve discussed before, I’m a morning person (awake with no reason at 5:45 am this morning…sigh), so staying out late like that is hard on me. Fortunately, I rarely have to do that anymore unless I’m watching a late hockey game or something fun. I have to work (filling in for someone) tonight from 5-10 pm, which is better than getting off at 11 when we close. Sundays, though, are full for me: church in the morning and then almost always working from 2-8/8:30 pm. Monday is my Saturday/Sunday. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Enjoy and then relax!
