When we stopped at the light, I said to Sassy, “I see you are not rocking the casbah.” She cried out, “I cannot rock the casbah, I don’t even know what a casbah is!”

This post makes me sad.

Yeah. That’s how it is with kids, though. They absorb what you listen to all the time, and either they love it or hate it, but it’s impossible to get an entire music library into their heads at an early age. Especially when you’re up against iPods and YouTube. In contrast, on occasion, I have to ask them who sings the new music I do like!

The Clash? Really? Sassy is lucky.

Sassy is lucky not to know what a casbah is or to be asked to rock it?

To not know what a casbah is.

I’m guessing you’re not a fan? What kinda music do you listen to?

Oh I like most all music. I even had a faint fondness for Clash years ago. At that time I was more TLC than NAP. Of course Good Rock is eternal.

I don’t either. I have many holes in my general knowledge, and this is one of them !

Not much of a punk rock fan, then?

I had no idea what that meant either when someone referenced it a few months ago 🙈

Haha! Well you’re young, too. What kinda music do you listen to?

If not knowing that song makes me young, then I’m glad not to know it 😉 😉
I mostly listen to Hanson, Weezer, and Wilco. I’ve got a few bands I mostly know the lyrics to the songs to and stick with that by and large.

Hah! “Hi, I’m E, I’m too young for The Clash!” 😛
I knew about the Hanson, but I find that funny to be mentioned with Wilco and Weezer. You remain ever interesting.

My husband is to thank for those two. He didn’t particularly care for only listening to Hanson in the car!

Hopefully that means she only knows about earlier Clash albums, right? (RIGHT?!)

You’d think, but no. She may know London Calling or Should I Stay or Should I Go, but it’s hard to say.

Now I’ve got that song stuck in my head!

That’s great! I think that’s what my answer would have been too.

I found a way to fix that problem. My ex and I made up a game years ago, that the first person to get the name of the group when a song came on the radio in the car, got a point. My eldest son Fred saw how much fun we had with it so he made it a point to learn all the groups. I still beat him most of the time, but he tries. And sometimes he even gets the more obscure ones. 🙂
What really gets me is how many kids these days don’t even know who Queen is. 😛

Yeah, no, we’ve played plenty of Queen, but it’s only gotten through to Sassy because she’s performing We Will Rock You on her cello tomorrow.
Also, I would kick all their asses in that game! 😛 LOL
Moo does a bit better with music from all genres, she seems more open-minded.
We could never play that game, because our car tells us what’s playing on the radio
My parents played music at home pretty much 24/7. I do not. We play a lot of music, but The Mister watches too much gd tv. And no, I’m not bitter 😉

Haha! It doesn’t sound like it. 😉
My radio tells us what’s playing too – we have to get the group within the first few notes anyway, or someone else will. Normally the name of the song comes up before the artist on the display.

Did you see any advertising for the new Bill Murray film, Joey? Pretty soon there will be some young people who recognize this expression! 🙂 hope so, anyway.
My youngest loves Bill Murray from “St. Vincent” movie. He’s an ornery “cuss” in that with Melissa McCarthy and a kid in it.

Rock the Casbsh film has Bill M. discovering a new musician in Afghanistan and taking to Kabul for a talent star television show. 🙂 Sounds funny! 🙂

Do you see the image of that whirling circle when your computer is searching its memory to retrieve some long-stashed data? That’s what mine has been doing since I read your sentence because I know I know it; my mind just has to find it.
Hum me a bar !!
