Share Your World #23

What was one of your first moneymaking jobs (other than babysitting or newspaper delivery)?
You know those places in the mall with the giant decorated cookies? There. But my boss was a lech so I quit after about 6 months. Took a lovely job in the card and gift store. No lechery. Quite a raise. Much responsibility. Great job.

What is your favorite month of the year?
October. It’s a long month, but it always seems to go by too quickly. I really like the cool, mosquito-free days without sweating and sunburn. I love the smell of leaves in the fall. Mmm, fall.

What three things in nature do you find most beautiful?
trees, grass, flowers

List at least five of your favorite spices? (excluding salt and pepper)
parsley, basil, rosemary, cilantro, mint

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?
I had a good week. Dinner and porch sitting with friends, visits from family, date with The Mister, and I should probably say those things putting people above food, but I am an introverted foodie, so um…Dolmades. Oh how I wish I had a plate of them right now! Oh dear God, the dolmades! Turkish vegetarian dolmades, FTW!

This week is the Pride parade, and I am looking forward to that, but hand to God, I’m most glad I don’t have to go to the grocery store all week. When I do go back, the Bing cherries will be perfect! Oh, and it’s lily time around here!

Cee’s Share Your World is a weekly feature and all are welcome to play along.

I noticed that our first lily has color. Still tight, but ….. Sounds like you had a great week last week. 😀

  6. As a former upper-Midwesterner (Michigan), I’ll second that about fall…winters were brutal, spring lasted about 3 days and summers were hot, sticky and bug-filled, but fall was the best! Oh, and eff the grocery store…I want one of those food replicators like they have in Star Trek that just makes whatever the hell I ask for.

I must admit I have never heard of dolmades. What are they made of?

Joey, I like your porch gatherings, company and your grape leaf wraps called dolmades. Yummy!
The beauty in lilies cannot be measured or compared~ durable, varied colors and different shapes make them way above other average flowers.
I had fun with a guy who I work with for only 2 months, had a first date 2 weeks ago and now, like silly school crushes, we text. He was sick for our 2nd date, then has his kids again this coming weekend. No one knows at work since we don’t know if it will last.
My DIL, Hendrix almost 10 months old, the other grandies and I went to see, “Alice through the Looking Glass.” I paid for tickets and kids snack packs, all taken care of for $54.00! Our local non-profit movie theater charges $4.50 tickets, $3.50 snack boxes with M&M’s (or 5 other choices), popcorn and a small drink. Skyler had only a drink (he has braces) and I had brought his candy in my purse. Hendrix watched 1/2 hour, nursed and fell asleep, woke up to see the ending. Micah was at my exes house with his wife for the week. . . Work is hectic and hot in the warehouse, especially on the second floor. Take care and enjoy your week ahead! 🙂

Those herbs 🙂 They lend that freshness to everything! You cannot really come up with a disaster with them, can you? 🙂

My lilies are just about to bloom en masse…only one or two showing so far. It’s been a cool Spring. I like your list of spices and herbs…I would choose the same, but switch out the cilantro for lemon thyme.

The lilies are pretty. I miss having them around the house, but the deer would not stop munching on them so we got rid of them. I haven’t had a dolmade in years, not since my grandparents-in-law passed away, taking the recipe with them, I guess.

  15. Okay, I had to look up dolmades.I know them as stuffed grape leaves. I did not like them the first time I had them but I adore them now. I have even tried to make them, but they fell apart. They still tasted good, but they were a mess. I am looking forward to eating at a favorite restaurant later this month and ordering a plate of dolmades. Thanks for making my mouth water.

I wanted to cook them until I looked them up. No thanks, all day food, like tamales. I love gnocchi and curry and I still only make those once or twice a year!

  16. I don’t remember much of last week, except that I missed one doctor’s appointment, and went to a doctor’s appointment that I didn’t have. This was in the same day. I like October to, the crisp air, my birthday…

I’d never heard of the dolmades either, but they sound pretty good. If I ever see any on a menu I’ll order them. … I sure understand about all day food…like those tamales. I did those …once…took forever, but turned out ok. 🙂

  18. Those Dolmades look delicious! Sometimes if I can get the family to help and can find the good grapeleaves I make my own. Cypriots add meat the greeks don’t, I guess the Turks neither. Now I want some!
