The little boy said he wanted to play soccer. His father told him that soccer was unAmerican, and he should want to play a real sport, like football.
My dad looked up from his paper to say, “Soccer is the most widely-played sport in America,” and then resumed reading his paper.

BTW, the link in the email failed (but I know where your blog lives)

Yes, thanks, the draft issue AGAIN. I really must be more careful!

The link has a date of 08/02/2015 – I knew Central Time Zone was behind us, but I thought it was an hour, not a month.

I’m in YOUR timezone, so yes, it’s a real problem when I don’t check the date on my drafts. It’s only begun to happen recently.
Drives me crazy!

I have had that happen on several occasions too. It is annoying.

Really? Thanks again, that makes me feel better!

Yeah, I thought they fixed that but for a while, your post got the date of the first day you saved a draft, regardless of when you posted. I don’t store drafts anymore, I schedule them and then change the schedule date. Sooner or later that is going to bite me in the butt when a horribly unfinished draft gets posted 🙂

I know! I almost had that happen while I was on vacation! Talk about panic!
I will begin setting a schedule for all drafts, but…
Scheduling doesn’t work for One-Liner, Thursday Doors or SoCS, cause I need the pingback. *sigh*

I schedule Thursday Doors. Norm uses the same style title, so you can build the URL ahead of time. I’ve messed up once, but I usually get it right SoCS is a total crap shoot, but you can’t write it ahead of time anyway.

But you can write it SoCS on Friday! 😀
I didn’t know that about Norm, but um, you lost me at build the URL.

The pingback link (URL) is always in the form of https://miscellaneousmusingsofamiddleagedmind.wordpress.com/2015/08/27/thursday-doors-august-27-2015/
so you can include the link in your post and just change the dates accordingly. Same with SoCS, you can include the link to Linda’s page Friday night and schedule the post for Saturday (I do that all the time, ‘cuz I’m walking Maddie Saturday morning)

Her auntie gave her that nickname when she was just a baby 🙂 It does suit her!

It’s certainly the most widely played sport in England and my childhood would have been much poorer without it I can tell you 🙂

In regards to that, I should think it’s obvious that soccer is football, and that it is a real sport because games, goals, cups, and things!

Not that I’m a fan, (far from it, I can’t stand any of them) but “soccer” is not unAmerican, it’s totally American.
“Football” however, that’s English.
I think what y’all talking about is “American Football”.
Hope that clears that up for you. ;~}

I am with you completely 😛
Soccer is football. Obvs. (as mentioned in above comment)

You wouldn’t get away with calling it that here, that’s my point. Sacrilege, apparently, not that I care either way. ;~}

I don’t like watching football much but I loved playing it when I was younger. Sassy looks like she is enjoying herself 🙂

If it was mentioned before your email subscription came up as the dreaded 404 error. Sassy looks like she is going in for a good kick in the gut of one of those two!

It is, was, and always will be Soccer to this North American. A great game for kids to play. You know: outdoors, exercise, timing, coordination, teamwork, and all.
As a spectator sport I think I’d rather watch paint dry (way more going on!!) or perhaps even listen to golf on the radio.

If past Norm Posts are an indication, the month has a leading zero but the day doesn’t.. I’m going to try this for tomorrow – https://miscellaneousmusingsofamiddleagedmind.wordpress.com/2015/09/02/thursday-doors-september-2-2015/

Wouldn’t it be 9-03?

I checked August 8th and it was just 8. The first part is built by WordPress. The second part is Norm’s title.

Oh – yes you’re right the first part would be 03. Ugh, dumb

I liked the short story and Grandpa’s retort about soccer, Joey. It IS very popular! My youngest daughter liked it a lot. Your daughter, Sassy in 2010 looks like a real athlete and she seems to be having fun, too.

And as Papa spoke, even the crickets fell silent! It is like an EF Hutton commercial, because when Papa speaks, everyone listens.
