Share Your World — March 27, 2017

Does your first or middle name have any significance (or were you named after another family member)?
I was supposed to be Michael Jolene, but not everyone in the family was as progressive as my parents, so it was inverted. I’m told I was named after the mother on The Waltons and the mother of The Gabor Sisters.

Music or silence while working?
Music for working round the house, silence for everything else. Of course, this is not usually possible in my house, but a woman can dream.

If you had a special place for your three most special possessions (not including photos, electronics, people or animals), what would they be?
My favorite painting sits on a ledge in the dining room, which is also where my beloved dining room table is. I struggle to choose a third most special possession, but regardless, most of the possibilities are on the dresser in our bedroom.

The Never List: What are things you know you never will do?
I’m not much on the never of things.

It is my plan never to set foot in Georgia again.

There are a host of things I think I’m done with: really high heels, Mamas’ Boys, liquor on an empty stomach, climbing rocks, caving, tops of lighthouses, slips, attending standing room only events, reading horror, potty training anything, piercing things… It is highly unlikely that I will move to a warm and sunny clime, develop a deep tan, and take up golf.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?
Last week was spent recovering from the week before. I know, y’all think that was done in the 36 hours after I stopped moving, but um, no. It was wonderful to move at standard speed and to enjoy my leisure time at a leisurely pace!
Also, my husband is ever so dreamy, and he looked fantastic on the other side of date night’s bread pudding.

I am grateful he took my car in for maintenance, too.

This week coming up, I get to sleep late for six more days! This is also the week I will take inventory of my seeds and plan the garden.

Cee’s Share Your World is a weekly feature and all are welcome to join in and play along.

What is in a name…. as it goes. When I was a kid I’d heard I was named after a saint and baptized on the saint’s day. All those years and even as a kid I thought “thanks a lot, I’ve been set up for a difficult life… and what if it was one of those names the church decided wasn’t a real person… was I kicked off the calendar oh woe… ” How’s that for opening up a world of insecurity for a kid? But I found out as an older woman soon to retire (very recently) – took ’em long enough – by my mom who’s still alive and kickin’ , that she and her cousin were pregnant and discussing names for girls if… my mom wanted Barbara Ann for me, Margaret Mary was her second choice but she really liked Barbara Ann, but her cousin’s baby was born first and she named her Barbara Ann (a name later sung by the Bech Boys or was it Jan and Dean) anyway I got MM. When she relayed the tale she heaved a sigh.. I think mom is still not happy with her cousin about the way it turned out. (Yes, over 60 years)

Heh. I get that, I really do. Chosen names feel so personal, don’t they? My cousins and I had three babies in the span of 4 weeks, and two of us had chosen the same middle name. I think if my other cousin hadn’t had a boy, there’d be three with the same middle name. It’s nice to see you over here. Been awhile. I’ll have to check in over on your page.
You were right, Beach Boys 🙂

You know, the Beach Boys imitated Jan and Dean… they were the first with those harmonies… I might just look them up to see what songs were originally theirs. There was a movie a while back about them and in it they were griping about the Beach Boys…
        fun…
I hadn’t been able to check out the reader in a while but had cluttered myself up with some blogs… well, let’s say I’ve unfollowed and am getting back what I’ve liked to stop by and read… AND with a week off (took an actual vacation – not going anywhere – just veggin’ at home with my grandson) … I’m diggin’ it!

I started following only by email, because email retains its space, and I am not compelled to scroll the reader til I claim the end of blogs.
I’m glad you’re enjoying your time with grandson 😀 Sounds wonderful!

Michael Learned played Olivia Walton. I adored her when I was a kid. I wanted her to be my mother.

Interesting post. I middle name is DeWayne. I father’s middle name was Deforest. I am positive he just wanted to saddle me with as awkward a name as he. The only never I say is to never say I will never do something. Because stuff happens.

DeWayne isn’t too bad, Deforest is worser, methinks. Did you saddle your boys similarly, or nah? My mother has a weird name like me and Sass. It’s a thing, fersure.
I agree on the never say never — mostly.

No idea why I’m named for who I am. I prefer silence or very soft soothing music in the background when I’m working. The number of interruptions I get though … not going there. Some of my favorite things are on a table next to my bed along with a painting on the wall I drew. Some of the never stuff is the same as yours … drinking I’m done with altogether, no heels no more, no tats or piercings, no patience of the noise of kids no more (sorry but silence is preferred), no running just walking or hiking, no sugar or white flour. I’m grateful to my hubby who read a post of mine and who actually realized a detrimental pattern that was hurting he and me and our family. And thus he has stopped. A miracle if you only knew how many years I tried to TELL him but nope, it took my writing. Hmmmmm …. I’ll have to keep that in mind. LOL Cool post, Joey! ❤

  5. So many things on my never list, but I think I’d rather call it a “fat chance” list. Like golfing. Or going to the ballet or opera.

What surprised me here is your about not reading horror. I thought that was one of your genres? Or am I making that up?

I do write creepy stories in October — and read most of the ones others write, IN DAYLIGHT, but no, I don’t enjoy it. It’s good to get out of my comfort zone in writing — even if it freaks me out. I used to love Stephen King and Dean Koontz books. I still like a mystery now and again, but not horror.

Yeah, I think I’m over opera as well. 🙂

  6. How men read blog posts: blah blah blah, really high heels, blah blah blah, bread pudding. Great post from the male standpoint.

“attending standing room only events” – that’s a perfect thing for the never list.

  9. I think silence in a house that has children in it is an impossibility. 🙂 Ours doesn’t have children in it any longer, so now we hear the neighbor kiddos playing and having a grand ol’ time. Its great!

I bet that bread pudding was yummy. I haven’t had it in ages.

Have fun sleeping in and planning that garden! Have a blessed week. 🙂

I agree with you on the potty training. I wish I could say never on that one. But as soon as I were to say never, it would happen. Have a great week.

The Mother Unit SAYS she named me after Robert Redford, but I think she was just high. 😉

It used to be music 24/7 except lately, its silence preferred.

The “Never” list has jumped a few notches this month

My obelisk is on one side of my monitor, while my Valium is in an antique Lindt chocolates tin on the other.

And Im grateful for my renewed obsession with this card game I used to play. Having something to do on Saturdays is nice.

    Enjoy your week! 😀

No heels or golf for me either. No caves ever. Will go back to Georgia but I’ve only visited there, so that’s different than living there and never going back. I think you make a good point about husbands looking handsome when photographed on the other side of bread pudding. It brings out their best features!

Two of your nevers are coming up for me soon: potty training and a standing room only concert. Yay. We’re planning to spend spring break having BG wear underwear and hoping she decides it’s preferable to pee and poop in a toilet instead of on herself. I’m not optimistic that things will go the way we want as strong-willed as she is.
